DEFINITELY money WELL SPENT on a fleece By Bruce the Moose from Kansas City, MO on 11/03/2009 Pros: Attractive Design, Comfortable, Durable, Fashionable, Good Cut, Lightweight, Top Quality, Warm Cons: Not a Standalone in Wind Best Uses: Bad Weather, Daily Use, Going Out, The Jason Bourne Fleece, Travel Describe Yourself: Trendy/Stylish Dresser Sizing: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: It is the end of October here in Kansas City, MO and it has been awfully windy and awfully cold awfully early and so purchasing a fleece was gear priority numero uno. For hours--a combine day at least worth of time--bounced around the idea of buying a fleece from The North Face, Mountain Hardwear, Marmot, Patagonia, Columbia, or several other companies from several online retailers--[...] to name a few--and I just could NOT find the right fleece. I love quality but I am a bargain hunter at heart and so I just could not bring myself to spend more than $100 to get at least a Midweight to Heavyweight full-zip BLACK fleece that not only keeps me warm but has the secondary function of being stylish. Just when I was thinking about giving up, I happened upon this beauty, the Westcomb Nova Fleece, on Sierra Trading Post. I could not believe that this [$] MSRP, higher end than Arc'teryx and Patagonia, athletic fitted fleece--I am 21 and I like a tighter fit, not skintight, but tight--that hit all the checkmarks on my list, midweight, warm and breathable, full-zip, black, and stylish, could be only [$]. So, I did the logical thing and scooped it up. For the first week of wearing this, I kept on noticing how well made this was. The stitching is some of the best I have ever seen on any gear and no stitching ever comes in contact with skin unlike some other fleeces. The waterproofing on the pockets is ridiculously well done. It keeps me perfectly warm with a baselayer underneath and a regular jacket on top in below freezing weather. And it looks SO GOOD on. The only con is that it's not a windproof jacket, but it's not supposed to be so I don't really consider that a detraction. Altogether, the quality plus the top-notch customer service from Sierra Trading Post makes this one of the most pleasurable buys I've ever made. Thank you and Jesus bless you Sierra Trading Post for this blessing.
By Couleebound from Driftless Area, WI on 10/20/2009 Pros: Attractive Design, Warm Best Uses: Daily Use, Outdoor Activities Describe Yourself: Casual Dresser Sizing: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Great garment, very warm, but the fit isn't quite perfect for me. I'm 5'9 and 155 lbs. Sleeves are good length, length in the body is just a bit too short, and it is slightly large in the shoulders. But it fits well enough, is very warm, and of great quality so I'm keeping it! It should perform well alone for activities in brisk fall and early winter in WI with temps in the 30s and 40s. Or for layering under a light shell (it's relatively thick).
A hit right out of the box By Mom-o-rama from NY, NY on 10/15/2009 Best Uses: Casual Wear, Cold Weather Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Bought for my teenager who can be difficult to please. As soon as he put it on he liked it. Asked about the jacket so I could write this review he said: "I like it; it's warm." I asked if the pockets were adequate and the response: "Yeah." It's a very clean design, sharp looking, substantial weight material.
Top quality fleece jacket By pwyu from W. Michigan on 10/13/2009 Pros: Attractive Design, Comfortable, Durable, Good Cut, Lightweight, Warm Best Uses: Bad Weather, Daily Use, Going Out, Travel Describe Yourself: Trendy/Stylish Dresser Sizing: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is an amazing product. The Polartec thermal pro is noticeably warmer than my other 200wt fleece jacket (although that is warm too). The inside finish is very soft, though it does cling a bit to any sweaters I wear. The outside finish looks more like a sweater or nice sweatshirt, very stylish. The overall fit is trim, as it was designed to be, to minimize bulk when climbing or skiing. That said, a thick wooly sweater may feel tight underneath, but a thin merino wool dress sweater fits fine. Westcomb is one of THE top outdoor clothing company around, and you won't be disappointed by this product.
High quality fleece jacket By Pixeljockey from Upstate NY on 10/12/2009 Pros: Attractive Design, Comfortable, Durable, Good Cut, Lightweight, Warm Best Uses: Daily Use, Travel Describe Yourself: Casual Dresser Sizing: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: You can buy many fleece jackets for less money than the Westcomb. But the Westcomb is better made (in Canada!) than most of the ones I've owned, more stylish, and is very warm. It's got reinforced, zippered pockets, and a very nice textured finish on the outside. It has a slim fit, which is maybe not for everyone. I'm very pleased with this jacket, and will wear it both as outerwear on mild Fall days, and layered under a down jacket on colder days.
By Jerry from Taiwan on 10/07/2009 Best Uses: Casual Wear, Cold Weather, Hiking and Camping Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought this for my wife and she loved it. The quality is very good and the jacket looks very stylish.
By Gene from Princeton, NJ on 10/05/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Lightweight, Warm Best Uses: Casual Wear, Cold Weather Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels too long Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: The sleeves are strangely long, but I don't mind folding them over. Otherwise, it's a nice looking jacket, much less casual-looking than fleece. I haven't had a chance yet to test its windblocking properties, but I will soon.
By Love my border collie from Boise, ID on 09/29/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Stylish Best Uses: Casual Wear, Hiking and Camping Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This jacket has a nice trim fit, close to the body. Great layer for outdoor activities since it doesn't get in the way. Good fleece, doesn't attract too much hair and bit of stuff.
By Goldilocks and the three (dozen) coats! from Boise, ID on 05/25/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Lightweight, Stylish Best Uses: Casual Wear, Hiking and Camping, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I've tried lots of different light jackets in the last few months, looking for the "right" one. I tried Cloudveil, North Face, Patagonia, Arc'teryx, and I have finally settled on the Westcomb Ronin. Fits GREAT. Just enough warmth for 40-55 degrees, it's water resistant (close enought to "proof" for me), and breathable. It's so close to the perfect jacket for me that I'm contemplating getting another one in a different color.
