You can use the rechargeable battery pack, or/while its charging you can use the optional battery pack that you can load regular batteries into for all most non-stop action.

The remote control has a distance of at least 40 feet and I like the fact that it's waterproof---just in case you drop it in the water. The shark does every advertised and even goes backwards.

Once the assembly hurdles are over, though, the shark is a gas. We live on a lake, and the range is well above the 50 feet the box claims. It dives, circles, backs up.
