It's perfect for wearing around town - I use it for that more than anything else because it looks so good! IT's not very warm, but as long as you layer underneath, it works just great! Love this jacket - would buy it in another color if they had it.
By ktnyc from nyc on 10/19/2009 Pros: Lightweight, Stylish Cons: More of a light jacket, Not that warm, Not that windproof, Too thin Describe Yourself: Competitive Athlete Chest Size: Feels true to size Gear Usage: Bike messenger nyc, Winter Sports Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: riding in the winter, on bike all day
fit well
it not very windproof or warm not the best shell that they have made. i would not recommend this particular jacket to anyone. it is sold on the web site as a "hooded jacket" but it is labeled a "hoodie" and only has the warmth of an under layer.
By Home sick elian from Baltimore, MD on 10/18/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight, Stylish Best Uses: Camping, Casual Wear, Hiking, Outdoor Activities, Travel, Work Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I love this fleece. It is super cozy and fits me extremely well. I am 6 2 160lbs and the medium fits me perfectly, no extra baggage but not to tight. The most amazing part is how well the jacket fits my neck when zipped up all the way, it is cut amazingly well (unless you have a really meaty neck).
It is Polartec Wind material on most of it except 1/4 of the sleeve and underarm. That is powerstrech, which is probably more breathable (for good reasons) than the Wind resistant material. The quality seems great and I don't expect it to pill up anytime soon.
The fleece is not super thick and puffy which means it isn't ridiculously warm, and it isn't supposed to be. All wind resistant/stretch fleece materials aren't as warm as normal fleece, but are more versatile. Laugh at all the denali wearers when the wind picks up.
Keep in mind this is a pullover, meaning no features like waist cord, or pockets. If you're ok with that than get it, it's soooo worth the money, and it looks good. My girlfriend is jealous.
Perfect blend of insulation & softshell By Walter from NY, NY on 10/13/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight, Warm Best Uses: Casual Wear, Cold Weather, Hiking and Camping Describe Yourself: Casual Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Enough insulation up to the chest to keep you warm on colder days while keeping active, softshell upper for excellent range of motion for any outdoor activites (not waterproof though). In terms of size, I am 5'11" and a large was a great fit because I could fit a couple of base layers OR a midweight fleece underneath. Great jacket.
excellent jacket. excellent deal. By VTned from VT on 10/13/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Durable, Great pockets, Perfect hood Best Uses: Cold Weather, Hiking and Camping, Skiing/Snowboarding Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Chest Size: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: This is the jacket I've been looking for for a long time. The softshell upper beads water quickly and is flexible and comfortable, almost like wearing a sweatshirt rather than a jacket. The insulated torso is warm without bulk. So far it seems very breathable, but the pit zips are a key feature as no "shell" fabric I've ever used breathes enough for extended exertion. Great interior pockets for hat, gloves, skins, etc. I haven't used this skiing yet (since it's only October) but I suspect this will be my go-to jacket for area and backcountry use. My favorite feature is the fabulous helmet compatible hood that zips up covering most of your face. The neck and face portion are cut big enough so that it doesn't feel like work to turn your head with the hood zipped fully--something that is an issue on almost every other shell I own. I love the light fleece lining on the upper body and hood. This jacket won't keep you warm in the winter just standing around, but if you are moving in cold temps (even really cold temps) this will be perfect. One note on sizing, I read some other reviews of Mammut gear in general being sized very slim or "Euro." I can't comment on other Mammut pieces, but the stratus hybrid is cut perfectly for my 6' 200lb frame. I wear a Large 99% of the time, and the Large stratus is just right for some light layering without being tight or overly baggy. I would recommend ordering the size you usually wear, and not sizing up unless you like the baggy look. My only wish is that the back length was one or two inches longer. This isn't a size issue, but just how the jacket is cut with a short waist and long sleeves. Even at full retail, this verstile jacket is a bargain. Snagging one on STP is even better.
By Padooda from Kodiak, AK on 10/13/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Lightweight, Warm Best Uses: Cold Weather, Hiking and Camping, Skiing/Snowboarding Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Sleeve Length: Feels too long Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I ordered this jacket, excited for a colorful and cute winter jacket for warmth. It was HUGE! 5'10" & 150 I ordered a large, but it was gigantic. The sleeves looked like they had football padding, and the hand liners/thumb holes were twice the size of my hands. I sent it back.
Soft, warm, cut like a base layer By Traveller from Wellesley, MA on 10/12/2009 Pros: Breathable, Comfortable, Durable, Lightweight, Warm Best Uses: Hiking and Camping Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer Chest Size: Feels too small Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: High quality fleece with some stretch in it, nicely finished, great cut--just be aware that it is cut like a base layer--snug. I just won't be layering much more than a cami or silks underneath it (unlike some of the other fleeces I have).
