By Raffpap from Medical Lake, WA on 07/11/2008 Pros: Accurate Casting, Durable, Easy To Transport, Flexible, Good Tip Action, Sensitive Best Uses: Fly Fishing, Small Fish Describe Yourself: Avid Fisher Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: A sweet little rod for the money. It is fast and strong enough to cast with authority despite it's light weight. I'm highly impressed with it so far. The quality and construction of the guides, cork, wraps and reel seat are good, although I'm still having issues with that "swirled translucent finish". It will be ideal for small creeks and mountain lakes that I hike into, however, I won't be using it for larger fish. I highly recommend!
Cortland Endurance 9', 5wt, 4 piece By Fish'n in Sunshine from Northern California on 07/11/2008 Pros: Easy To Handle, Easy To Store, Good For Variety Of Fish Best Uses: Fresh Water, Trout and Panfish Describe Yourself: Avid Fisher Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Bought rod for wife who hasn't fished for 12 years. Her first float trip and hooked and landed 6 trout on Bow River in difficult fishing conditions tossing #8 wooly buggers on DT-5 dry fly line. Rod is built well for price point, medium to medium fast action gives good casting feedback and control. 12 year old son has 6wt model which also has good performance for trout to panfish and light bass flies using DT-6 fly line.

By Raffpap from Medical Lake, WA on 07/09/2008 Pros: Accurate Casting, Easy To Transport, Flexible, Good Tip Action, Very Sensitive Describe Yourself: Avid Fisher Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I fish a lot of lakes in e. Washington, using full sink lines. This rod, along with the 2-piece 9' Cortland Endurance rods, are almost too soft for sinking lines. It seems more like a medium rod instead of the moderate fast it is advertised as. My partners have noticed it, too, even without holding it! But, when I change reels and go to a floating line, it's fine. The "swirled translucent finish" is the ugliest I've ever seen, but looks don't catch fish, while this rod does. IMO, best used with lighter floating lines.

By Raffpap from Medical Lake, WA on 06/15/2008 Pros: Accurate Casting, Easy To Transport, Flexible, Good Tip Action, Sensitive, Smooth Casting Best Uses: Fly Fishing, Large Fish Describe Yourself: Avid Fisher Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Folks, I found these Cortland Endurance fly rods to be perfectly adequate for lake fishing. On the trips I've made since I received them, I've found that they cast well and they cast accurately. They have plenty of backbone for handling strong, feisty trout in the 18-22" range. Several fish of this size were landed and I saw nothing to indicate they could not handle larger fish. The uplocking reel seat is strong and secure and the cork is quality cork. My only problem with this rod is Cortland's "swirled, translucent, olive metal flake finish". This translates, in my opinion, to the ugliest finish I've ever seen on a fly rod. On a bright day this finish glimmers like a greenish/yellow 9 foot Jedi Light Saber! I kid you not, it's bright, funky and would be more at home in a night club! Wear your sunglasses and hope for overcast conditions! Beyond that, it seems like a quality product that would last for years.
