Yup, too thin for Upstate NY Winter By CoolBreeze from Albany, NY on 11/11/2009 Pros: Good Cut, Lightweight Describe Yourself: Classic Dresser Sizing: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I keep a coat the office in case I have to go out during the day ... something long enough to fit over a suit jacket and cheap enough that I don't care that much if I forget it someplace. This coat definitely fits that bill, and it's pretty well made, but it's also fairly thin. It'll provide some protection against the elements, but for prolonged exposure to real winter weather, it wouldn't be sufficient. With that caveat, I'd recommend it.

It is a nice heavyweight winter coat with a lot of insulation. It also has cords to adjust the fit and even has a very nice detachable hood. I was very pleased with this purchase and look forward to wearing it this winter.
By Poker Dude from Las Vegas, NV on 10/28/2009 Best Uses: Moderately Cold Weather, Wind Describe Yourself: Casual Dresser Sizing: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I couldn't find a 2X tall jacket in my usual local stores, so I decided to try Sierra. This jacket was on back order but arrived in time for our first cold weather. The snap-off hood is a plus for those cold, windy days. It's a little heavy but really comfortable and covers my long arms. I haven't washed it yet, so I'm not sure about it's durability or shrinkage.
