Garmont

Garmont

When Garmont uses the term A.D.D., they're not talking about attention deficit. (If there's one thing Garmont does, it's pay attention to details.) For Garmont, A.D.D. means Anatomically Directed Design—a comfort technology designed to mimic the natural contours and movement of your feet so you can concentrate on the wilderness before you. For more than 140 years, the Italian-born Garmont has been making world-class boots for ski mountaineering, alpine free-riding telemark and backcountry skiing. Triple Injected construction allows an effortless forward flex without sacrificing torsional rigidity and turning control. From telemark touring to rugged ascents, Garmont most definitely gives you the boot.

This is a nice shoe whose design speaks to the desire to be more off road, but with the materials for the upper, it doesn't do well with wet or dirty. Very comfortable as a dry trail day hiker that has good traction and stable footbed.

Comments:
These shoes did not live up to my expectations, based on my experience with other Garmont products (hiking boots, AT boots). While they certainly have great traction, they are not particularly comfortable and, after many hours of wear, actually began to feel uncomfortable across the tops of my feet. I don't mind the unconventional appearance of this shoe (they are called Nasty, after all), but all of the asymetrical design features don't seem to add much performance - more funky than functional. I also don't like fact that these shoes look really long. Like clown shoe long. I hate to admit it, but I even feel a little self conscious about how big these shoes make my feet look. They're not terrible shoes, but I would not buy them again and was a little disappointed with the overall package. They just don't offer the performance I was expecting.

I can't rate durability because I've only had these for 1.5 weeks, but they are the best walking/hiking shoes I've ever had. The engineered features work & they feel like they are custom made for me. I walk at least 4 miles a day and have had hundreds of shoes from all major outdoor brands. I might order another pair while I can.
