don't let the color scare you By sierra fan from VA on 07/15/2009 Pros: Comfortable/No Break-In Describe Yourself: Recreational Walker/Hiker Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: The shoe is more attractive than the picture. The lugs on the soles are almost too rugged although I didn't wear them outside. Lateral and arch support were a bit iffy. The company says it uses the foot's natural cushioning and that is true. The firm footbed felt like my hiking shoes from 1972. The toe box is wide but not overly so. If you are a hill hiker, you may want to go a half size larger.
By jf from chicago on 07/14/2009 Pros: Arch Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Durable, Great Traction, Shock-Absorbent, Stabilizes Foot Best Uses: Mixed Terrain, Rocky/Unstable Terrain Describe Yourself: Gym Rat, Recreational Walker/Hiker Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought these for an upcoming hiking trip and am very pleased out of the box. Also, I have been technically a size 8 for years and am totally annoyed that shoes don't seem to fit right anymore. I can be anywhere from an 8- 91/2 now. These were 8 and fit correctly.
Great toe room and stabilizing of the ankles and arches. I can't wait to try them on the trails, I think they are going to be very comfy and grippy even in loose gravel.
I agree with others that they'd look a bit silly in any situation but trails; but that's what i bought them for, so who cares?

By Curwang from NJ on 07/04/2009 Pros: Comfortable/No Break-In, Good for wider foot, Great Traction, No pinching at toe box, Stabilizes Foot Cons: Not a fashion statement Best Uses: All Weather Conditions, Mixed Terrain, Paved Trails, Rocky/Unstable Terrain Describe Yourself: Recreational Walker/Hiker Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: The shoes need very little break in. Worn on first day around the trail near house. Didn't need to take off after an hour walk. Very comfortable around the toes box. No pinching. Fit for wider feet like mine. Laces stay on well no slippage of the shoe tongue like some other reviewer. Recommend highly if you are looking for practical hiking/trail shoes but not necessarily a fashion statement.
By Wasatch Hiker from Ogden, UT on 06/26/2009 Pros: Comfortable/No Break-In, Great Traction, Stabilizes Foot Best Uses: Mixed Terrain, Rocky/Unstable Terrain Describe Yourself: Recreational Walker/Hiker Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: These shoes have great room in the toe box -- perfect for that descent. The features of the shoe make a difference. The offset laces, the tongue design, and the heel structure make them especially comfortable. The color is strange, but I love them for hiking.
By boardsailor from chicago on 06/15/2009 Pros: Arch Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Great Traction, Stabilizes Foot Describe Yourself: Gym Rat, Recreational Walker/Hiker Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: These seem like great shoes just for a slightly different shape sole than mine. I had to return them but they were close, I would recomend trying them 'cause you never can tell until you try them on. They are great looking, and I wished I could keep them.
I Iwould definitely buy these again. By Maine Mama from Bar Harbor, ME on 06/15/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Durable Describe Yourself: Comfort Driven Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: As with other reviewers, I need a shoe that is easy on and off, extremely practical with good traction and tough enough to go outside the places we go. These are very comfortable and I am quite happy so far.
By Always cold from Farmington, NM on 06/12/2009 Pros: Adjustability, Comfortable, Good Traction, Look Cool, Quality Construction, Warm Best Uses: All Mountain, Downhill Describe Yourself: Advanced Sizing: Feels true to size Width: Feels true to width Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought these boots at the end of last season and skied in them 7 or 8 times. This is the first pair of boots I've owned where my feet stayed warm resort skiing. It only took a few runs to "break" them in. I think it took my downhill boots almost 7 years before they were comfy. The only thing I don't care for is having to lace the inserts, but that's not a big deal. Great boots!
By Rural Carrier from Kempton, Pa. on 05/28/2009 Pros: Arch Support, Breathable, Comfortable/No Break-In, Durable, Stabilizes Foot Best Uses: All Weather Conditions, Everyday Describe Yourself: Recreational Walker/Hiker Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: These shoes were so comfortable I ordered two more pairs to keep on hand. I wore them everyday during the winter when I didn't have to wear boots. They were warm and provided enough protection from the elements. They have a lot of room in the toe box. They are a nice alternative to sneakers.
By Pensa from Putney, VT on 05/27/2009 Pros: Arch Support, Comfortable/No Break-In, Great Traction, Shock-Absorbent, Stabilizes Foot Best Uses: Grass, Mixed Terrain, Muddy Conditions, Paved Trails, Rocky/Unstable Terrain Describe Yourself: Recreational Walker/Hiker Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: My Garmont hiking shoes are wonderful and I am very happy with them. I have not used them in very hot or wet weather yet, so I cannot judge their breathability and ability to dry quickly. But I felt very supported in my arch and they have great traction in various terrains. I discovered why they are seconds and it is such a small detail that no one will notice. The shoe lace holes are just a wee angled off-center, but perfectly symmetrical. For the price and feel of the shoe, I am at peace with their, my own, and the world's imperfections
