Only problem is that there is no zipper and the wool plaid lining is somewhat itchy. Other than that very nice coat.
One More Time: THIS IS A GREAT COAT By Kaatskills Kate from Town and country on 09/07/2008 Chest Size: Feels true to size Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: THis is my second post... I bought this coat a year ago, and reviewed it in the early fall, because I'd had some experience already with the line -- I was constantly borrowing my husband's Gloverall (to walk the dog in lousy weather) before I bought one for myself. After an unusually long northeast winter, I'm giving this coat one more star and I'd like to answer some of the comments made by other reviewers -- particularly the lady from Arkansas who thought she'd freeze if she wore the coat on a trip to NYC, because it appears to be without a lining. (It's double-faced wool, but people aren't used to seeing this anymore, and may not know its merit.)
I split my time between Cooperstown NY and Manhattan. In Cooperstown, the temperature hovers between ten and 20-degrees F, from January through March. I wear this coat, on its own, beginning late October. It's cut big, as other reviewers have noted, so that you can layer, as the temperature plunges. This coat has seen me all the way through the worst of Cooperstown weather, with its bitter winds and icy cold. True, there is no inner zipper, when the toggles are buttoned, I am snug as can be. In fact, with mild exercise in freezing weather ( I'm talking about walking the dog)I loosen my scarf and open the top toggle. It's that warm. I also wear the coat commuting. It's cut just right, for sliding in and out of seats. On the minus side -- it's not waterproof, but you don't buy this coat to wear in a downpour. Anybody who lives in a rugged climate has a wardrobe of outerwear for different weather conditions, you can't expect one coat to do everything. That said, the tight woolen weave is excellent at shedding moisture and snowfall ... more than once, I've been caught in the rain, or heavy snow, wearing this coat, and it performed to expectations. I was dry, and the coat was no worse for the wear. So for people without experience of classic duffel-coat construction, yeah, you're right -- out of the bag, the coat looks like it won't work. But try it, live with it. There's a reason the British have been making these in exactly the same way for over a hundred years. I wish I could think of an excuse to buy another, in a different color, but there's no need. My mint green beauty will never wear out.
By pedicab from Charleston, SC on 08/18/2008 Pros: Attractive Design, Lightweight Describe Yourself: Classic Sleeve Length: Feels too short Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: The shoulders of the size 40 and the 38 measured exactly the same, and each side of the coat were a deferrent measurement, making one shoulder way to wide. The coat was boxy in shape. One coat was definitely a second.
Arms were too long so I returned it. By patti from boulder, co on 08/11/2008 Pros: Attractive Design, Breathable, Comfortable, Durable Best Uses: Casual Wear, Going Out, Travel Describe Yourself: Classic, Comfort-oriented, Stylish Chest Size: Feels true to size Length: Feels true to length Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend Comments: I bought this classic duffle last winter to replace my old woolie thinking those seamen know what to wear in foul and cold weather.
Boy, was I ever wrong! I pretty much froze wearing this duffle as the cold went right through the unlined coat and the wind went straight between the big spaces between the toggle buttons.
This coat proved very disappointing, even tho cute, this year I have to shop for another coat that will actually keep me warm.
This coat is fine if you live where the winters are mild, not if it gets below 40degrees.
By Jeep'in from Pittsburgh on 08/10/2008 Pros: Attractive Design, Durable, Good Cut, Warm Describe Yourself: Classic Sizing: Feels true to size Sleeve Length: Feels true to length Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Will use this coat for every day wear to work and around town. It's hard to find a wool coat made so well, especially for such a great price. Mine is black with a tan plaid lining that is especially sharp. This is the third duffle coat that I owned and the best. The previous, bought at an exclusive men's clothier, did not have an extra toggle button as this one does. A button broke on that old, but otherwise still good coat so it's useless now. That won't happen with my new Gloverall.

Wind protection is great. Very warm.
May be a lil' on the heavy side for some.
But thats due to the thick, durable, wool blend used. Quality stitching and classic design.
