By Jim from Tucson, AZ on 11/03/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Highly Adjustable, Oversized bladder pocket, Stable, Well-ventilated Cons: No bottle side pockets, No removable daypack, Size picky Best Uses: Day Hikes, Extended Hikes, Heavy Loads, Light Loads, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational What Is Your Gear Style: Comfort Driven Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I could have gone bigger with better support by buying the Baltoro, but I decided to stay smaller (lighter) and cooler for overnight to week long desert treks. And, I'm glad I did. This is a versatile pack (bag expands well, comfortably carrying 40 pounds). It has top and side access to a single compartment with a wide back bucket pocket (not removable, forming an area underneath) and a good sized top lid pocket. It took a bit to figure out how to pack "right." Also crucial for me, the Z55 has an oversized bladder pocket that easily swallows my 4-liter platypus (so I don't plan on using side bottle pockets - but, they would have been nice to have). It could also carry two 2-liter bladders. I don't mind the smaller hip pads but I wish the straps were a bit more padded under the shoulders. And, it would be nice, say, if the top made into a day pack. Make sure you get the right size - a too small Z55 can really hurt. But these cons are minor... it's easy to see why this very well made, stable, and well-ventilated pack has become so popular. A Best Buy!

By Traveler from St. Joseph, Michigan on 10/30/2009 Pros: Easy To Carry, High Quality Describe Yourself: Classic Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: Looks great, smaller than regular messenger bag, which I was looking for. I wish it had more internal compartments.
By Hike in Nepal from NYC on 10/29/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Easy To Load, Good Padding, Lightweight Cons: Hard to get stuff out Best Uses: Day Hikes, Light Loads, Wet Weather Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Comfort Driven Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: It is a good bag but I bought two Gregory Z30 backpacks for me and my sister last year.
Two weeks after I started my trek (Nepal) the strap on one of the bags was torn.
Three month after that- the metal pole of the other bag broke. I bought it again cause it is very comfortable and I believe it is a coincidence that those things happened. Hope I am right.
By Ozarkrambler from Missouri on 10/28/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Easy To Load, Good Padding, Highly Adjustable, Lightweight Best Uses: Day Hikes, Fastpacking, Light Loads, Travel Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: I love this pack! Good access, interesting combination of gossamer ripstop, functional padding, and tough hems. I love this pack in spite of the fact the torso length is too short for me (5'6"). Possibly the best part of the design is the shoulder-hugging harness, the worst part is the inaccessible side-pockets which I use for water bottles. Never mind the complaints, this is a well-designed and very light pack that I expect to use a lot.

By Laptop Lady from Indiana on 10/28/2009 Pros: Easy To Carry, High Quality Best Uses: Family Trips, Long Vacations, Weekend Trips Describe Yourself: Retired Relaxed Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: A good sleeve for quick trips with the laptop....and fits inside a case for long travels.
Great backpack for weekend trips By surefooted frank from Rogers, Arkansas on 10/27/2009 Pros: Comfortable, Lightweight Cons: Delicate, Weak Seams Best Uses: Day Hikes, Extended Hikes, Light Loads Describe Yourself: Avid Adventurer What Is Your Gear Style: Minimalist Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Comments: overall this pack seems to be made well. Gregory has been a big name in backpacks for some time.
It is constructed of ultralight ripstop materials that seem delicate but I havent really put them to the test yet although I wouldn't go bushwacking with it. But seems to be perfect for a go lite type hiker that can keep it on the trail.
