2.0 out of 5 stars. Not a good fit for meReviewed by new jammies from US on Saturday, August 25, 2018I have worn Ahnu hiking shoes and liked the fit and comfort. I am very surprised that this style caused so much pain during the half dozen times I've worn them. My experience with the sizing seems to depart from that of most other reviewers; I find them to be too narrow in the toe box, and they rub my little toes. My feet are a little wide, but not by much. Secondly, they don't support my feet enough, and my feet ached by the end of the workday. Finally, there is a seam or something that rubbed the back of my ankle. The last time I wore the shoes, I scraped a little piece of skin off my left ankle while I was crossing a parking lot. Yow! I couldn't get to the car fast enough. That was it. I like the look of the shoe, but the fit just isn't right for me so I can no longer wear them.

I haven't worn them much yet, but they appear very well made and should be comfortable. On initial trial, the leather rubs in a couple of places, but I expect that will dissipate with wear. I wear a 6 1/2, and these appear true to size, if not a bit loose without socks.

I then exchanged them for a 7.5 and I felt they were too small. Nope. I was wrong. These shoes need to be fitted properly. The strap needs to be pulled until you feel your feet firm in place so that your ankle will always be touching the back part of the shoe. At first, I had worn them with the strap a bit loose because I was afraid I'd hurt my feet if I tightened too much, but when I pulled the strap to the point that it would hold my foot in place, I saw that the shoe fit perfectly, like a glove. These are very comfortable and pulling the strap to the right place does not hurt or feels tight at all. There was no need to "break in," and, believe me, I have bony feet that always suffer with new shoes. Comfort is priority for me. I had never had a pair of Ahnus and I am pleasantly surprised.

I've never worn Ahnu before, but wear Naot, Dansko, Birk's, and Chaco frequently. These do not have the arch support that those other brands do, but the arch support is much better than the average shoe. Many reviews that I read said to order a 1/2 size smaller in this brand. I followed that advice, but wish I had ordered my regular size. I can still wear them, but my toe is definitely at the end of the shoe! There is no way I could wear even a thin sock with them! I kept them because I only plan to wear them without socks anyway. They are very cute with leggings. The shoes are a bit stiff, but I think they will break in nicely!

Because my toes hit the inside toe box when I tried them on, I decided to send them back for my regular 6.5. I'm glad that I did because the 6.5's fit much better. Possibly, if you have a narrower foot, a size down would work. I have a wider width foot so they just would not work. Very happy with this purchase!
