I was hesitant on purchasing these boots because I could not find any information/reviews on them other than on AKU's website, but I took a risk and purchased after seeing other positive reviews of their hiking boots. First off, these are very robust, and are much larger than the Lowa Cevedale(non-i... Read More

I purchased this boot for the "sole" purpose of extended backcountry hunts in granite terrain, putting a minimum of 10miles per day. The boots performed admirably and are still in use after a year, as of this review. My only beef with these boots, is the fact that the rubber rand separated on both boots within the FIRST Day of use. Bad glue, bad seam location for the rubber rand and what a pain! Pine needles and dirt and everything else fills up the Gap between the boot and the rand. The Montagnards are hard wearing and will last far beyond most boots in terms of durability, but AKU needs to fix a couple of weaknesses on them first. Purchased on Sierra Trading Post in Summer of 2015.

So I've had Scarpa Mont Blanc, Mont Blanc Pro, Salewa Pros, La Sportiva Nepal EVOs, La Sportiva Nepal Cubes and Lowa Wiesshorns.
Wanted to get a boot that was good quality but at an amazingly good price, which is where these boots come in.
Ordered this boot in two sizes, an 11 and 11.5 (my foot measures at 10.5, but I like the extra room for kicking steps and coming down... my toes won't bump).
The 11 was a little short (almost felt like a 10.5), but the 11.5 was perfect. Has a good 1/2 inch, maybe a bit more, room at the front of my toes.
Fit wise, it fits like a Mont Blanc and Nepal Cube, with a medium wide heel, medium midfoot, and ample wide forefoot with nice toe width. It's definitely not as skinny as the La Sportiva Nepal EVO or the Mont Blanc Pro and Salewa Pros, and totally not super tight like the Lowa Weisshorns were.
I was a little worried about the heel lift I was getting at first, but that was simply a factor of the boot leather "stretching out" during break-in. Now after 30 or so miles of Adirondacks peak bagging, I can crank the heel lock and not worry about stretchy leather heel slip.
They walk similar to the Nepal EVO, but not as good as the Mont Blanc, Nepal Cubes or Lowa Weisshorns (which happened to be the best boot of the bunch for approach hikes). The Mont Blanc Pro and Salewas were terrible at approach. Overall, for walking/hiking ability, these are in the middle of the bunch.
Strap on a pair of crampons to them and they perform admirably, going up Gothics North Face with no problems at all, and eating up Tucks on Mt Washington. Haven't done any vertical ice, so I cannot comment on that. Honestly, all these boots have similar feeling going up steeper snow.

All in all, this boot is a keeper. I will be ordering another pair of 11.5 when they have the proper coupon again. For literally less than 1/2 the price of the other boots I've mentioned here, you get a boot that easily competes with all of them, any day of the week.

Great boot for wider feet (just like Scarpa Mont Blanc).

Have had a chance to use these now on a couple of good winter hikes in the White Mountains. Bottom line these boots are awesome. They fit great right out of the box. They kept my feet warm in temps down to -15 F and wind chill at -40 on Mt. Washington. The soles grip well on rock, work well in snow, and fit my step in crampons perfectly. Attention to detail and workmanship are top notch. Very, very please with this pair of boots. Highly recommended.

I was impressed with these boots right out of the box. Everything about them exudes quality. The fit around my ankle was like it was fitted for me. The boot has a good stiff mountaineering sole but is much more comfortable than my kenetreks or meindls. The lug sole gives great traction. The speed lacing system is great, divided into upper and lower. I really like the front and back pull on loops. As a land surveyor, I walk over lots of hilly, rough and wet terrain, I think these boots will be perfect for the job. I expect them to last as long as any other premium boot I've had but with more comfort. I highly recommend you try these if you haven't found that just right boot.

I'm new to winter shoeing and ice climbing, but even after only a few uses, I know that these boots are far and away the best footwear I've ever owned. They seemed a tad heavy at first, until I realized this is what mountaineering requires. Also, as always, S.T.P undercut every other site's price by a wide margin.

    • Answer Hello, yes the size you select here on STP are U.S. sizes. In fact, the size I ordered was an 11 also, and for comparison, I wear a 10.5 in my Asolo Neutron hiking boots and a 10 in Brooks Ravenna running shoes. I ordered a size up from my ordinary size to have more space in the toe box to prevent toe bang on descents and it has worked great for me thus far.
