Most Helpful 5-Star Review

5.0 out of 5 stars. Comfy, supportive, good-looking

I have wide feet and high arches, and I've been looking for a good hiking shoe from Sierra for a couple of months. Previous pairs I tried from Patagoina and Vasque didn't work out because their toe boxes just weren't large enough and/or shaped correctly for me. My big toes pressed up uncomfortably against the side of those shoes.

I finally got a winner with these AKUs though. Good arch support, super stable and protective sole, roomy toe box, immediately comfortable for walking. They even have some retro style going on. I appreciate that as I'll be wearing them to work occasionally and I like to be able to wear a rugged walking shoe to work (I walk-commute sometimes) that doesn't necessarily look like I'm about to go camping.

  • 2.0 out of 5 stars. Attractive, but uncomfortable.

I work in a greenhouse. I'm on concrete all day, walking through puddles and, admittedly, often spraying my own feet when I water the plants. I was really excited about these shoes! I love the retro look and the fact that they're waterproof. I didn't get a chance to test the waterproofness (That's a word. I swear.), because I had to send them back. There's zero support. Even with my own insoles, which are good ones that I use in my other shoes, I could still feel the hardness of the sole underneath. Also, the tongue of each shoe kept cutting off circulation to my toes, no matter how I adjusted the laces. I hurt from my hips down to the balls of my feet after wearing them for one day. Maybe they would make somebody's body happy, just not this body. The extra star is for the style. I dig the way they look.
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Comfortable and well-fitting

I purchased half size up from my normal shoe size. Fits great. Have not tested water resistance. Would give 5 stars if they were a bit more attractive.
