5.0 out of 5 stars. Mt. Washington Summit!
Reviewed by At99sy from New hampshire on Thursday, February 19, 2015
Yesterday I wore these on a VERY much Winter hike/climb up Mt. Washington in NH. Only the second time wearing them. First was at my daughters
ski jumping practice in single digit temps for about two hours. So no break in period, period. The temps were below zero the entire time and -20 at the summit. I wore a liner sock and a pair of heavy sub zero socks and crampons most of the way. The climb was near vertical in some places for several hundred feet. Never once did my feet get cold, my toes had plenty of room and the grip on snow and ice was quite good even before the crampons went on. I wore a paid of Kahtoola K-10 crampons, which are pretty flexible. The stiffness of the boots was perfect for what I was doing. I was wary of these boots due to the low price, but am very impressed with them. I usually wear a 10 1/2 but got these in an 11 and they fit perfect. I got a little heel slip on my right foot but that was my own fault as I let the laces get loose and it was just to stinking cold at the summit to worry about it.
I recommend these very highly.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Very good AKU.

It keeps my feet comfortable and gives comfort and stability even after a long time. It was a good choice.
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. Not for extended excursions.

These boots felt sturdy out of the box and fit comfortably (with superfeet inserts). However, after 7 days in the snowy back country the waterproof seal layer along the bottom of the boot began peeling off. Trekking through snow and crossing numerous small streams (with gators), my socks were wet and toes cold, while my companions who had higher end boots (La Sportiva Nepal EVOs) had dry socks and comfortable feet.

If you want a medium end boot that you don't expect to put through the ringer, these will be fine with these, but if you're looking for something more rugged/durable for 4 seasons, I'd recommend paying more to invest in a higher end boot.
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. Good boot for snow trails... Not mountaineering

Well-made and comfortable, but it's not built for mountaineering. Trails with these and ice spikes are great. Rugged mountain terrain with crampons you'll need a double boot.
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Initial Impressions are Good

While I have not yet climbed in these boots, I did want to share some information to potential buyers. Based on the quality of the boots, materials, and initial wearing as my part of break-in process, I would rate these at least 4 stars (no 5th star until field performance test). The fit is true to size for my experience with the European to USA size difference (size USA 11). No problems attaching my crampons. These are very comfortable when wearing and walking and have good arch support. Toe area is a bit wider than I have experienced with most other boots. I purchased these boots for a future climb of two volcanoes (19K and 20.5K) in 2017. So far they have met my expectations.

Excellent quality, great comfort, 2nd pair of this boot I have had. 1st pair I wore everyday for 2 years in harsh work environment. And still were comfortable.
