Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
I used these boots on a trip to Kauai in anticipation of slippery conditions and they didn't disappoint. The treads are deep so they grip well in wet conditions. Ankle support is great without feeling overly cumbersome. There's virtually no break-in time so you can use them straight out of the box. Waterproofing works perfectly, they're nice and light, and they grip well - it's hard to find something bad to say about them.
The only slight problem I found was that they can be a bit slippery when crossing streams (which is to be expected) and if you're climbing around on rocks the deep treads can catch sometimes.
These are great boots and I am very pleased with them.

Mine have lasted for four years and the soles are still good. I got new different ones but right away went back to my Akus, they're just so comfortable and flexible and for me they have a lot of sentimental value.

These boots are an excellent example of the European boot making tradition in an updated style. The last of Aku boots is unmatched in the industry in my opinion. Why buy boots made in China when these are comparable in price and far better in quality.

I just got the Icaros and was a bit surprised how nice these boots appear to be made. Not the average junk being pawned off as hiking boots patched together with a lot of small pieces and too much stiching that can wear through quickly; and worse, makes hard spots in critical places. Not these. There is some stiching along the side but it is minimal and seems not to cause the boot to fold awkwardly. The sizing seems very close to U.S.A. as advertized. Another plus is the inside support is padded rather than straight hard nylon like many boots. Very important as the balls of my feet get sore even when I add thin cussioning under insoles. I feel no pressure point, and the boot pronates nicely. I have an extremely difficult time finding shoes, let alone boots, that I can even put on my feet and walk around a room without some kind of pain. Bunions, artheritis, and other problems make it almost imposible to fit a shoe properly, let alone a boot. wherein I need a snug fit to hold the foot in place, a reasonably roomy forefoot, a snug heel, and no weird bending and pressure points on the side or top of my feet and no hard spots around my ankles (thus I hiked in lows and mids for years).
This is the best medium duty boot I have had on my feet in years, and have tried almost everything. Not just because I can keep them on, but the quality appears to be first class. Though the weight is reasonbaly light at under three pounds, I wouldn't consider these day hikers. Much more of a backpacking boot with plenty of stiffness under foot. I day hike in shoes. I can only rate these a four-star since longevity remains to be seen, but for the price I bought a second pair, These do not look like boots that last only one season. As for break in, I have to break in sandals, so I'll work these in for a few months before taking to the Sierra high country. Folks who fit these and have tougher feet could maybe do with a few walks around town and a couple harder walks. My shoes and boots get a lot of wear before I'll trust my feet to them walking long distances with a pack.

This boot fits excellent. Its very light and supports my arch and ankle. Great traction on hills, rocks and wet conditions. A lot of boots are too hot to wear everyday, this boot is very comfortable, breathable, and cool.

I WEAR THESE BOOTS TO WORK EVERYDAY, I STAND ON CEMENT ALLDAY, SO FAR THEY FEEL GREAT, THEY FIT GREAT, VERY COMFY, NO BREAK IN, LIGHT, AND WATERPROOF, FOR THE MONEY THEY WERE A GREAT BUY, WAY BETTER THAN MY MERRELS! THE ONLY SMALL PROBLEM I'VE HAD SO FAR ARE THEY ARE A LITTLE SLIPPERY ON ICE. OTHERWISE VERY PLEASED.
