This is my second pair of Alico Backcountry hiking boots. They fit perfectly and are comfortable right out of the box. I have never had a blister hiking in these boots. I have had some problems with my feet but in these boots, my feet feel great. They are protected and supported in ways that hel... Read More

I found this fits true to size, when wearing a thicker wool sock and sock liner, it feels comfortable- not too much space so that my foot slides around, but also not so close to the toes so that my toes slam against the front- so true to size is just right. As a trail runner and casual hiker, I've been accustomed to wearing trail runners or a pair of mesh type hiking boots, which compared to these, make me think of them as a running shoe with ankle support. Well, i'm getting into hiking/backpacking more seriously and the class i'm taking made this style of boot a requirement- tough lug sole, full grain leather (no mesh) for waterproofing and snow conditions- and honestly, I didn't know what the big deal was, so off we went on a 13 mile hike on very rocky terrain, and I wore my mesh material hiking boots..not only did I almost slip several times but towards the end of the hike, the bottom of my feet felt as if i could feel every pebble and stone my foot went over- how could this be?!?! Thankfully, I ordered these Alico boots in time for our next rocky terrain hike (which involved rock scrambling, and some advance type rock climbing techniques)..let me tell you, WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! the firmness of the sole on these boots protected my feet from feeling the rough elements underneath me, I didn't experience any slippage, and truly gave me all the support my feet needed- these are serious hiking boots, and I have no idea how i hiked without these before!! Definitely takes some breaking in time, and I changed the foot inserts to help-but the sturdiness you get from this shoe makes it truly well worth the break in time. I will agree that the heel area can feel a bit loose, but I learned that's easily fixed with a proper hiking shoe lacing technique and you can find tutorials on how to do so on youtube. the only reason I did not give this boot a 5 is because they are my 1st "real" hiking boot.

My husband bought these for me, they are truly beautiful boots! They will definitely take some time to break in, so I wouldn't recommend buying these and not breaking them in before a big hike. My only complaint (hence the four stars) is that the top rim of the boot doesn't seem to be leather, but more of a cotton padding inside of "pleather". I assume this is so that you don't get sweltering blisters on the back of your upper ankle, but i think they will wear quickly. As I use them I will attempt to come on and update my review, but overall extremely pleased with this gift!!!!

I got these boots for myself and my husband in preparation for some Mt. hiking we will be doing in a few weeks. I can only speak to our break in period and quality but so far so good! (That is why I only put 4 stars.) I have worn them about 10 hrs so far and so has my husband- no blisters- no rubbing spots- very nice quality and they seem to be durable. I have only worn Chacos for the last 10yr (lots of kids- no big hikes) so for me I have to break them in because I am not used to wearing a boot but so far so good! I am looking forward to hiking in these- A very nice boot for the money! (STP awesome sale!)

I have been looking for a well quality leather boot for a while now. Even though this boot was not waterproof I ordered it anyway. It is a nice quality leather boot and I love the look of it but as another reviewer stated, my heel slips in it while walking. I am definitely worried about getting blisters on long hikes therefore unfortunately I will be sending this boot back. STP is great as always with returns!

I really love these boots..they are a bit heavy but as expected. They are great for walking around the woods & look really cute with jeans. They are warm. Its summer here and I will probably shelve this until the weather turns a little cooler and wear a lighter hiking boot for summer. Overall Im very happy!!
