I just picked me up another pair of Alico Summits... and this is the 5th pair of Alico boots that I have purchased. I currently have 2 Alico Tahoes, 1 Alico Guide and now 2 Alico Summits and I can honestly comment on each and every model.

Information about Alico Summit Backpacking Hiking Boots (For Men)
Closeouts. Nestled within the Alps, the Dolomites are known for jagged peaks and deep crevasses that have challenged the climber's craft for centuries. The Summit from Alico was handcrafted by artisans in this awe-inspiring region. Its one-piece oil-tanned leather upper was made to explore the tough terrain of rugged landscapes. Soft leather interior and moisture-wicking insole reduces friction and blisters.

These boots are a little heavy, but with wear you don't notice the weight. Great leather, fits like a glove, easy
break in period. The leather backing the soles is thick, so some flexing of the toes was needed to help break
the boots in (toe bounce while doing push ups) Recommend the boots both for hiking but also they look good
    while in town.

These are some of the best boots ever made by man. I was a Marine for five years, and have hiked, hunted, grew up on a farm / ranch. I've used up a lot of boots. Just be aware that they are heavy, but your legs will get used to that. This is my second pair.

After several years of not hiking/backpacking started up again and needed a hiking boot quickly. Found these at STP for a very reasonable price and purchased them. While it is not recommended to just wear them out of the box on a hike, I did, and wasn't disappointed. My first hike with them was Half Dome. I did not get a single blister and on the downhill part of the hike, they held my ankles securely in place to prevent my toes from getting battered in the toe box. They are very well made, all leather (even leather lined), heavy duty, backpacking boots that have now stood the test of time and distance, without a hiccup. The way to get the best value is to wait for STP to have a sale and purchase them. The only negative, and it really isn't a negative, is that they are rather heavy. But that is really just a matter of being in adequate physical shape in the first place.

I read nearly all of the reviews on STP (for this and the Tahoe) before purchasing these. The quality of workmanship and material is unmatched, and this is among the best shoes I own - the equivalent in craftsmanship of Aldens or Allen Edmonds dress shoes. The norwegian style welting (sewed-on sole, not glued-on) allows the soles to be replaced over and over (again, just like high quality dress shoes), and the leather upper and lining likely will last indefinitely if cared for properly. It is so hard to find anything "made to last" but the Alicos are just that. I also tried on the Tahoes, which are just as good in terms of quality and craftsmanship. The difference is that the Summits have a full leather lining, are somewhat higher on the ankle, have a recessed grommet at the ankle.

The sizing does not have to be tricky. Based on numerous reviews, I first purchased these 1/2 size down from my usual size. I will say the 1/2 size down seemed about right at first - but only without adding a high volume insert (e.g. Superfeet greens, Sole brand, etc.). As numerous reviews reflect, the footbed that comes with the shoe is not high quality. I do not think this is a mistake, as some more experienced reviews suggest you are basically paying for the extremely high quality leather and construction of the boot, but the manufacturer is assuming you will buy a separate footbed. Once I inserted a Sole footbed (also available at STP), my regular size was correct, and fits like a glove. Bottom line advice I would suggest: Get your shoe size, but with the boot purchase a good high volume footbed.

And if it doesn't fit, or if you just want to try another boot, STP will take care of you. They have a FREE exchange policy so you get the right boot with the right fit. Their customer service is nearly instantaneous via e-mail, IM or phone, and you get a real person who helps you through the whole process and answers all questions. E-mail them, or call them; you won't regret it. I feel like I got a perfect boot with a perfect fit, thanks to STP. Can't say enough good about the whole experience, and certainly will purchase here in the future.

My priority was to find a high quality highly supportive boot that did not cost a ridiculous amount of mone. The reviews seemed to indicate Alico's were what I was searching for. My last 2 pairs (Garmont and Asolo) were my first and second with molded soles, and both lasted less than 2 years before the soles separated. The soles on the first pair separated completely, leaving me with an 8 mile trek back to the car in heavy rain on boots with no soles Not something I ever want to repeat.

Yes, they are beautiful rich 1 piece leather uppers with Norwegian welt construction. Yes they run short (I had to order a full size up) and wide. But stiff with a long break-in period? That's not what I received.

Mine feel like they have a 1/2 length mid-sole that ends before the ball of my foot. They are stiff enough to protect your feet from small rocks, but they are a lot more flexible in a rocking motion than I expected. And I'd guess they will become more flexible over time.

The uppers may be the best part of the shoe- firm, supportive and pretty comfortable out of the box (but they creak). The lacing system is very adjustable and helps them fit well. All that's good for walking on trails but not so much for scrambling up cliffs, traversing scree slopes or even loose rocky trails.

For comparison, I have a pair of Garmont Guide boots. They are great on mixed rock/snow/ice, but they are too stiff for hiking. Based on the reviews. I expected the Summits to be stiffer overall. I will update my opinion after l I have more time on them.
