Just purchased, 1st hike

I just purchased these boots and took them on a 5-mile hike over desert terrain with a lot of loose rock and gravel. It felt good, and fits true to size. I wore a sock liner and a medium-weight wool sock, and was very comfortable. I purchased 13D Alico boots, and in dress shoes normally wear a 12.5D or 13D. I was very pleased with the fit, and believe as the boots break in, I will be able to wear a heavier-weight wool sock. I also have a pair of Danner Mt. Light II's in 13EE, and an older pair of Alico Husky hiking boots in 13E. I wear both of those with double wool socks. If I were to contrast them, the Alico's both fit true to size; the 13E's are a little wider than the D's. As compared to the Danner's, the Alico's were much less expensive (I purchased the Summits here), and feel like a more substantial, much heavier-duty boot better suited to 4 season, heavy-duty, backpacking. That's not to sell the Danner's short; the Danner's are great hiking boots, very well constructed, and lighter. I think if I were going out for a day hike, or out for a desert hike, it would be the Danner's. If I was heading out for 3 or more days, on the mountain, it'd be the Alico's. Short answer? I love them all, they each seem slightly better suited for different uses. Both the Alico's and the Danner's have full-grain leather, Norwegian welt construction. The Danners feel like the leather is a little thinner, but the quality from both manufacturers is excellent. For the record, ages ago I had a pair of Mt. 10's full grain leather, Norwegian-welted boots that the Alico's remind me of - and those lasted over 2 decades, and likely would have lasted a lot longer if not for being lost in a move.
