These boots are terrific, they look and feel quite good. BUT, they have absolutely no arch. I had to send them back for that reason; my days of orthotics in every shoe are over. On the day I received these boots, I also received a pair of Keen hiking boots. The Keens were softer to the touch, w... Read More

These hiking boots are of superior quality and the fit is spot on. I have not gone on an official hike yet so I am not able to rate them in that respect. I have hiked in more flexible hikers and twisted my ankles multiple the depths of the Adirondaks. I feel that these boots will stop that from happening due to the great supportive structure.

I own a pair of Tahoe and Summit boots, and I bought the Tahoe for my hiking companion. The Tahoe is an excellent boot for the price: Norwegian welt, fantastic sole (super grip and traction), comfortable and lightweight. You will not regret your purchase.

The boots are for my wife. She says she is very happy with these boots although feels a little bit of stiffness.

These boots are just what I've been looking for! Nice one-piece leather boots with stitched sole. They're sturdy, yet light-weight. Yes, it's true they have little cushioning or arch-support, but I simply put in a cushy innersole that has decent arch support. Comfortable from the gitgo. Sizing seems very good. I wear an 8 1/2 shoe and 9 boot. I ordered a 9 in these and they're just right.

My daughter who loves to hike the Adirondacks recently had a blow-out with a older pair of boots so I surprised her on her birthday with the Tahoes. She loves them and is breaking them in wearing them to work and around town. They seem to be very well put together with high end leather, soles and craftsmanship. So far 5 stars...Fit is true to size.

    • According to information listed under the product Overview tab: Sturdy Norwegian welt construction is resoleable
Answered on 1/27/2017 4:35:04 PM by Product Specialist Greg from Sierra Trading Post
    • Yes, of course. They have a Norwegian Welt, and are both bonded to the boot as well as stiched to it. Boots with this type of welt are commonly resoled. They type that cannot be resoled lack a Norwegian (or the other, Goodyear) Welt.

    • Yes! These are the old-fashioned stitched welt type boot. Yay!

    • I'm sorry....I have no idea. The Tahoe's that I got are the first and only Alico boots I've gotten. They are beautiful... both substantial and relatively light. Good all-round hiking boot. Perhaps the Backcountry boots are heavier and heavier-duty... more for long-distance, back-packing, etc.?

    • There are conversion charts on this site, as well as those you can Google. My wife wears a size 7 1/2 tennis shoe (Nike), but I purchased a size 8 1/2 Alico boot for her to accommodate a liner sock and a thick wool sock. She wears the boots often and has broken them in, and tells me they fit perfect and are very comfortable. These are top-quality full grain leather boots, and once you break them in, you won't want to wear anything else for hiking. I have a 6 year old pair of men'should size 14, and they are great

    • I wear an 8 1/2 shoe and usually get a 9 in hiking boots. I went by the STP conversion chart and the boots fit perfectly.

    • I'm a 7 1/2, and I wear Euro 38-39. I ordered these in a 7 1/2, and they fit great. I use (and recommend) and insole, and wear wool hiking socks, and it all fits well.

    • I was worried about that too, but I love them and they don't feel heavy for me. The sole is firm and most of the weight is probably there. I've done some 10 mile hikes in them now, and love them, and feel like they'll last a long time.

    • Yes it's a little bit heavier and stiffer than ordinary boots
Answered on 12/16/2016 3:10:53 PM by David from NZ
    • Initially, a little, yes. These are very-well constructed, top quality (full grain leather, one-piece upper, Norwegian welt), boots. I have a set of size 14 men's, and bought some women'should 8 1/2's for my wife. They take a little longer to break in, but last forever, and break-in and feel just like gloves...but for your feet. My wife told me they felt heavy at first, but now wears and hikes in them all the time. Most importantly, she lowes them and wears them all the time, including just to walk aroundtown.

    • I found them to be extremely heavy and uncomfortable. Never wore them sent them back.

    • These boots do feel somewhat heavier and less flexible than lighter-weight hiking shoes or boots, but in my opinion, they feel a lot more supportive, especially of your ankles. I have weak ankles and arthritis in my feet. Lighter weight hiking shoes and boots just did not feel supportive enough for my feet and ankles. I love the support I get from my Alico leather boots. I replaced the removable insoles that came with the boots with some heat-moldable SOLE inserts from REI. Now they fit my feet perfectly. Another plus is that the soles are sewn onto the boot upper rather than just glued. The glue used on other hiking boots and shoes wears down from exposure to heat, water and friction over time, requiring customers to buy new boots nearly every year. These Alico boots should last for years if cared for well.

    • Actually, for a wonderfully-made, sturdy, all-leather boot, these are extremely light weight! I love them! Much lighter than my Asolo synthetic boots and my old Vasque Sundowners. And, no break-in time needed. I highly recommend them!
