These classic all leather hikers are beautiful! This style is the lightest weght boot of the three Alico's STP is selling right now. The light weight makes them very appropriate for everyday use and they are still stout enough for serious hiking with a light load. I expect that they are not waterproof, but can be treated with any of the several products available to make them so. Once treated, they will be appropriate for wet weather wear. I had a very similar pair to these (from a hiking specialty retailer) that lasted throgh three pairs of soles. I expect that these will perform similarly. I did have to return them to get a cosmetically perfect pair[...]!

I am an avid hiker, and enjoy backpacking and long day hikes. I liked the sound of these boots because they are old style, heavy leather boots. When I first got them, I almost sent them back. The footbeads are worthless, and they felt like two by fours duct taped to my feet when I first put them on. However, I put in some Meindl cork footbeds (from Cabelas) and put a couple of coats of Limmer Boot Grease on them. The footbeds helped the boots to fit much better, since they were overly spacious inside with the worthless foobeds that came with the boots. As I have worn them for the past week or so, the boots have broken in pretty fast, and they are now very comfortable. I can't wait to try them on a long hike in the backcountry, but for now, I am very satisfied with these boots. Especially at the price they are being offed at STP.

The boots are built like tank and fit my foot comfortably right after out of the box. I usually wear size 9 or 9 1/2 for casual shoes and I chose 9 1/2 midwidth for these boots. Compared with Scarpa and La Sportiva of the same size, which usually makes me feel a little narrow, Alico New Guild is wider and fits better. These boots are well designed, classic and beautiful. I believe they will endure many tough trips. The only thing I'm not 100% satisfied with is the furnish of the boots. Though still great, it is in the slightly downside to La Sportiva.

I found this shoe to be sized 1 and a half sizes to large. I usually wear 9.5 and the 8 fit me well.

Great fitting, strong, stable, broken in and water-proofed after 10 miles and 2 applications of Snow Seal. I wish I had owned a pair when I was in the service.

Amazing boots and here is the proof. These boots arrived at my door step an hour before heading to Glacier National Park in the middle of February. They didn't need any break-in period, comfort from the start. I hiked between 10-25 miles a day on paved roads, trails, scree fields, and lots of snow fields. I then came back and hiked 30 miles of the Appalachians in PA that weekend. These boots performed well with everything I threw at them. I ordered a half size larger than my measured foot which is probably why I didn't have problems breaking them in. I felt they might be too big at first but I am very pleased with the extra room, perfect fit at the end of the day. On steep technical terrain and snowfields I would have preferred a stiffer sole, but for everything else they are perfect. Great boot.

When I saw these on sale again, I sent the following verbatim e-mail to 10 friends:Anyone who’s interested in a killer deal on a killer pair of hiking boots, read on [...] Or search for Alico I happened across these boots last summer at Sierra trading post. I have 2 pair, and I’m about to buy a third (The Tahoe), just to have for the future since they’re so unbeatable. I wore the Summit ones last year in Montana, no blisters from a new boot in 50 miles of rugged terrain. I’m a HUGE fan.Few boots are still made in Italy, but these are. A former aficionado of Vasque Sundowners, I won’t buy another pair now that the “Chinadowners” are made in China. Read the online forums and you’ll see that they fall apart. These boots have the highest quality full grain leather, very thick, that you can find. I have not seen anything like it for years. They also have a SEWN ON SOLE. NORWEGIAN WELT. This is becoming a lost art. These boots can therefore be RESOLED. But you’re unlikely to wear out the vibram soles anyway. The sole is so thick and stands out from the toebox so much that you don’t even scuff the toebox when you’re hiking as the sole takes all the abuse. The sizing is almost identical to what your foot will measure in the shoestore on that little thing, if you wear thick socks with them. I’m right on at 7.5 EE with just a little bit of slip that I think will disappear after they’re done breaking in and the sole begins to flex a little more. The only drawbacks are that they’re HEAVY, and they are NOT gore-texed. But they’re almost waterproof anyway no the basis of the thick full grain leather that is impregnated with some waterproofing BS. I put Sno-seal on mine routinely, although I have not had to yet with these. This may be your last chance to find made in Italy top quality full grain leather boots for less than $150.These are aggressive boots for serious backpackers. Not for weekend warriors. At least the Summit and Guide are. The Tahoe looks a little less aggressive if the lacing pattern is any guide.
