As stated, I'm a minimalist when camping out of my kayak, but who doesn't like comfort whenever possible? I purchased this for making my sleeping bag more compact when packing it into my kayak. I not only fit my sleeping bag in this size Lg cmp.sack, I also fit a travel pillow in as well. First time ever I was able to bring a pillow out into the bush! What a difference it made for sleeping. Both compacted to a smaller size compared to just my sleeping bag packed normally. Great piece of gear! I'm not sure if the cmp.sack is waterproof, but it is water repellant. For anyone who uses dry bags, here is an idea: I actually packed my sleeping bag and pillow into a dry bag (the kind with a valve). Closed the top & I left the valve open. I then put the dry bag inside the cmp.sack, upside down with the valve at the top and sticking just out of the top & side of the cmp.sack cover. As I pulled the straps to compress the sack, air would still come out of the dry bag as well. When compressed to the smallest I could, I then closed the valve (this makes the dry sack air tight). Then tuck the valve back up inside if you want to get it out of the way. Happy camping everyone! -P from WI

I was able to fit my Marmot 2p tent, tent footprint, regular size sleeping pad and my sleeping bag all in this sack. Once you pull the compression straps, you're good to go. The only con, for me, is that the top section that has the nylon straps can get a little tangled up. No biggie... I am very happy with my purchase...

I got this bag to stuff my sleeping bag in and it was well worth it! It can be used for almost anything during camping or hiking...but you would need to get a strap if you're planning on lugging it around with you.

This stuff sack can hold my North Face Elkhorn mummy bag with ease and also a couple shirts if needed. Although it does stuff short and fat like some of the review said, it's easy to fit into a larger pack for longer hikes. This is another great product from Alps Mountaineering. It also has a water proof lid with zipper and a loop on the bottom which made it easy for me to hook it onto my smaller pack.

Most compression systems shrink the diameter of the object(s) being compressed. This bag compresses from the ends so you end up with a larger diameter, but shorter payload. Works great and well built. I used it for an older sleeping bag and it compressed it to a nice small size. Heavy duty fabric and straps should last for years. If your replacing old sleeping bag stuff stacks, this is the item to buy. Even has a nice small zip compartment on one end.
