I ordered the ALPS Mountaineering 20°F Echo Lake Sleeping Bag, and ordered the compression sack because it was recommended. After I put the sleeping bag in the compression sack, I put the whole thing in the stuff sack that came with the sleeping bag, and the size difference was negligible. The sleeping bag easily went back into the stuff sack.

This is a really overbuilt stuff sack, it is a little bit heavy, but I think it is just about indestructible.

It works well for compacting and sleeping gear or clothes. Tough material and nice pocket on the end. I only wish it had buckles on two of the straps to make it easier to operate. It tends to get a little twisted.

Great item. It's exactly what I wanted. It's heavier than I expected but the value of it will be so high that I won't mind when it comes time to pack my backpack.

From my experience this product is very well made and functions very well as a compression bag. My only regret with this product is that I got the wrong size. With the size medium I have a very difficult time getting my ALPS 20 degree F rated sleeping bag into it, and there is no room for anything else. I wish I had a larger size so I could also put part of my tent and/or clothes into the compression bag as well.

    • Answer No this stuff sack is not waterproof.

    • Answer No. I just purchased one and there was nothing that indicated it was. The sack is pretty thin and I doubt it would keep out water.

    • Answer I'd say no. They are likely water resistant but they are not rubberized or canoe/kayak bags.

  • Question “how big a sleeping bag will this hold mine is 2.2lbs how small does it compress it to”
Asked on 5/16/2010 12:00:00 AM by carol 2255 from Unknown
    • Answer This size should fit your bag, but it hard to say without the dimensions. It will fit most regular mummy bags, especially down. It will compress down to about 18", it just depends how tight you pull the straps.
