I got the larger size of this and it was a little too big for my uses, but the medium one fits my sleeping bag perfect and the zipper pocket on the end is handy to keep sleeping items all together. This thing is bullet proof, but not lite.

These compression sacks are really too heavy and bulky for backpacking/mountaineering use. They may be nice for car camping or maybe kayak/canoe trips (although they are not dry sacks). They have a zip pocket in the lid of one, which may be handy but makes these even less compressible! They seem very sturdy though...probably less prone to tear than the very light ones.

I understand the theory behind compression bags, but thing has almost 2 times as much fabric and weight as a regular stuff sack. I don't think the advantage of compression is worth the extra weight. Also the straps used to pull it together get twisted easily. It is very ruggedly built. So if you need a tough compression sack and weight is no object, this may be for you.

We have a compact car so traveling light and compact is important for camping and long road trips. We primarily use these to compress our sleeping bags. However, we recently took a long road trip and to save space, I stuffed all of our clean clothes in one sack. I fit 2 suitcases worth of clothes into one large compression sack. I took another sack to hold our dirty clothes. The medium sack is perfect size for a sleeping bag.

This is no flimsy sack! The bag is built in and it alone is worth the price. The straps are strong to really get that stuff small. The zipper pocket on the end was like finding a surprise. I'll keep this a long time.

well constructed for its size. If I was buying the extra large bag I would be concerned. The Alps bags are great for compressing items that are not as tough as a sleeping bag. General clothing, other soft items, and blankets are ideal for these packs. I would go with a much heavier bag for compressing sleeping bags. I would recomend the 9 strap military surplus sack for that task.
