I chose this cot over the competition (Thermarest, etc) partly because of the good sale price but also because, at 29 inches, it is substantially wider than the others, which are mostly 24. Unlike other reviewers, I had no problem assembling it the first time. The trick is to insert all four legs in... Read More

This review is for the "new"version of this cot. I purchased this one as a replacement for the last one. The last one worked great and took a lot of extended use and abuse before needing replacement. Unfortunately, they changed the design. The side supports still come in three sections but they do not connect the same. The old ones had long sleeves that slid over the other sections. There were also holes for the bottom supports on the side sections inside AND outside. They lined up when the sections were connected properly so the bottom supports good be inserted. The new design has short sleeves on the side supports and NO overlapping holes. The effect is that the entire cot is much more wobbly and unstable. Worse, it bows in a lot, creating a very uncomfortable narrow hammock instead of a cot. My favorite features of this cot was its light weight, portability and low height. It worked especially well for my small, low height tent. However, the new design has made this cot so uncomfortable that I can not use it. I am 5'8" 180 lbs.

We used regalo mycots for the kids and needed an alternative now they're taller than 48". Those cots are great because of how quickly they deploy and lightweight. The alps cot fits the bill to grow with them. They are low, sturdy, and comfortable for kids and adults, I'm 220 and moving around was a bit creaky so I'll try lubing the rails when I use it. And easy enough to put together despite some reviews here. Relatively lightweight compared to alternatives and nothing comes close for the cost.

Let's face it. I'm old. It was time for my husband and I to swallow our pride and add cots to our camping gear. Would I backpack with it? No. Too heavy. Would I take in on a paddling trip or car camping? Absolutely. I'll portage this baby in any day. Aside from proper camping trips our cots are in weekly use for sleepovers and backyard campouts for our kids. We've gotten far more than our money's worth and they've held up brilliantly to the abuse we thrown at them for 2 years. (And despite other reviews, you don't need an engineering degree to put it together. My kids can do it solo.)

The cot is easy to assemble and long enough for a person 6' 1" tall.

Exactly what I expected. I wouldn't call it "lightweight" but definitely less bulky than a standard cot. Nice and low to fit comfortably in any tent and great for guests at home. Definitely car camping weight. Very comfortable. Super easy to setup. I have seen reviews about the directions being terrible. I didn't even pull out the directions. It's pretty obvious how it goes together when you have all the pieces out. Setup is less than two minutes after you figure it out the first time.
