First, I have a severe back injury and because of that almost wrapped up my camping days. No air mattress on the market would handle my back issues especially after a day of camping type work. This thing, well, it has saved my camping days! It is so comfortable, wide enough to sleep on my side, long... Read More

Nice pad. Needs some help inflating the first time. Fits the ALPS Mountaineering Camp Cot - Extra Large.

We got 2 of these and went on our first ever (car)camping trip. Worked really well. We followed the instructions. After receiving these from Sierra, we opened them up and let them self inflate, and then blew more air in and capped. Let it sit for 24 hrs, then loosen the caps and store in that manner. We rolled them up to take to our camping trip and then unrolled when we got there. Blew a little more air in before securing the caps. Slept great. In fact I deflated mine a little bit in the middle of the night because I made it just a bit too firm for my taste. Looking forward to using them again for our next camping trip.

This pad looks solid but once inflated it had uneven lumpy bubbles where the cover was separating from the core material, right out of the box. STP's return policy made everything right but it would be frustrating, useless purchase otherwise.

So, I bought 3 of this for our family and very happy with the performance.
It self inflates and keeps me warm and comfortable when sleeping in the tent.
However after 2 usages, one of them shows sign of internal breakage.
The air chamber inside hold air pock seems to be busted and start swelling like a balloon when air was in.
However, Sierra Trading Post had a great customer service which replaced it at no cost for me.
    Thank you STP!

This is the one! You can blow it more to make it firm. So comfortable and keep all the moisture out. Bye bye air mattress.

  • Question “Is this pad insulated and if so whats the r value?”

Asked on 5/30/2014 11:20:44 PM by curious camper from rocky mountains
    • Answer Yes, it is filled with some type of foam that provides insulation. It's over 2 inches thick and almost 3 in the head section. Based on my past experience with Thermarest pads of lesser thickness ...... you could use this on snow and be comfortable. It was in the high 30's in Yosemite a few weeks ago and it was quite comfortable with no cold sensation. I don't know the exact make up of the foam or how to calculate the R Value of a particular insulated pad.

    • Answer The pad measures 3" alll around. By far the best, although heaviest pad I have ever owned; not for backpacking!

    • Answer I took out my sleeping pad and allowed it fully inflate on its own- then added air by blowing into it. That made the pad a close 3" all around and 3 1/2" on the pillow. It is really hard to accurately measure the pad- however I can attest to the fact that is is a thick and comfortable pad. A great deal for the price.

    • Answer The pillow portion of the pad is 12 inches long - and is a solid 3 inches thick. The rest of the pad is slightly less ...... just unrolled it and let it self inflate for a few minutes. I didn't try and blow much air into it ...... comes up pretty quickly. There are two oversized valves.

    • Answer It is too heavy, and wide for backpacking BUT the most comfortable sleeping pad I have ever used. I've only used it when able to transport via car.

    • Answer Yes, it's a car camping pad, not a backpacking pad. It is super comfy, but it would be awkward to backpack with.
