ALPS Mountaineering Zenith 3 AL Tent - 3-Person, 3-Season

I am a BSA leader. My last few tents have been Sierra Design. I bought this a few months ago and went on my first campout this past weekend. weather in Florida was hot and humid - no wind nor rain challenge. As others have noted, easy to set up, good room for 2 with dual vestibules and doors. Aluminum poles seem to be of good quality though the ends pull out too easily when extracted from grommets - a little annoying. I'm thinking of putting a spot of glue on the outside of this joint to minimize this annoyance. Quiet zippers, included gear attic, taped seams on fly all speak quality and detail to attention. I was able to unzip the fly-doors from the top to increase ventilation on hot nights. I'm planning to use this one for Philmont next summer and if parents ask, will recommend this tent for their boys!

Used this past weekend on a car camping trip in the state park, breeze to set up and take down. Didn't deal with any wind or rain but seemed sturdy. Says that it's a three person tent but with two 6'0 guys sharing one I'd say two is max. Nice touch with the rain fly giving you extra coverage on the entrances to store gear but have it covered. The two sided entrance is also great especially when sharing the tent. Great buy.

I bought this tent to replace a backpacking tent that my wife and I have had for 20+ years. I have been through a couple of others that were poorly designed, and returned. I focused more on this brand, as it is the one our Scout Troop has had the most success with, in terms of being light and sturdy. I believe the Zenith has been replaced with a newer model, but I was able to set this tent up in about 5 minutes, with one arm in a cast. I think two adults would be pushing the capacity of this tent, but otherwise am pleased. I may have been happier with a couple more inches in height, but once I am out of my cast, I will probably be okay with that. I am waiting to see how the vestibules perform in rain, due to location of the doors and fly zipper locations. Good value for the cost, and I am hopeful this offers many years of service.

My first experience with this tent was setting up in 30 mph gusts in my front yard. It was a little difficult, but I think any tent would be under those circumstances. Once I got it set up and staked out, the winds continued and picked up, and the tent stood firm. I set up it a second time, much easier, no winds. It will comfortably hold 2 adults, 2 children and a dog. Lightweight for the size. Only cons are the tent floor is made of the same thing the fly is, so it's really thin, be sure to clean your site well and use a footprint, also, the zippers catch the rainfly easily, so it could pose a problem if it tears the fabric.

Bought this tent in preparation for a backpacking trip - It was awesome! Super easy to setup and lightweight. The only downfall was during a substantial rain storm the tent leaked. We used it for two people, I feel like it would be really cramped for three.
