Now a Fire hazzard! The battery plug shorts out after several years. I got several of these. They worked well until the plug into the battery case started to short out.

This is a good deal for an all stainless product. It was easy to put the shelves together. The racks are not very big, about 14" x 16", but there are 10 of them, so will fit a fair amount of produce in it. It does vibrate a little, I may try putting some spacers on the door to deaden the rattle. One caveat, get a fine metal file or honer and take the edge off the door's edges. I cut my hand first thing because these were left unfinished and still sharp!

I use this unit to dry all my wild game jerky. It is large enough to do plenty of jerky in 1 batch.

Can't compare this product to others, as it's the first dehydrator I've had, but it seems to be of good quality and doing the job well. I love being able to dry my own fruits at home -- taste can't compare to the store-bought! Instructions that come with this dehydrator are poor (no listing of drying time), but if you don't mind checking it online, go for it, because otherwise the machine is easy to use.

Durable appliance that we can modify and enjoy for the rest of our lives. The factory installed components are just as cheap as could possibly be installed.

Have used for beef jerky and drying apples. Very impressed with performance. Much better quality and speed than the "plastic" dehydrators. Can't wait to use it again!

CAUTION: Poor sharp finish on door edges. Fingers got all cut up handling the door. Otherwise worked as advertised. Something to keep and use for a long time. But watch out for those edges!

Quite nice capacity for a desktop unit. [...]My husband loves it for his jerky and his friends want one too. I will dry apples in it next summer. Our timer has worked fine the few times we've used it. It is noisy-fan and sheet metal rattle. We use it at night and we can tell when it's shutoff (quiet) so maybe that is a feature, not a bug. My husband was using two round plastic tabletop dehydrators before and they were so much hassle and worked poorly he never thawed the jerky meat. With this unit he has made 2 batches already and declares it excellent. He is happy so I am happy.

I'm extremely happy with this product. It is a well-made (stainless steel!), well-designed product with a range of uses besides as a dehydrator. I've been using it to flawlessly proof bread (inside oven bags - it would be too drafty for uncovered loaves) and find that the temperature control is consistent enough I plan to make yogurt with it soon. I imagine it would also serve as a nice incubator for cheese, a fantastic warming oven for bread, or a holding oven for finished dishes. Oh, and it's also a flexible and flawless food dehydrator. One warning: the stainless sheet metal has unfinished, e.g. SHARP edges. Be extremely careful unpacking and handling the unit. I got a nasty cut on my thumb pulling the unit from the shipping carton. You could easily slice to the bone on one of those edges. Still, this may be the best purchase and easily the best bargain I've found @ STP. Cheers.

All in all, a great deal for the price. Beats those cheap, plastic, stackable (aka Ronco) products, at about the same price (after coupons and promos). Stainless steel looks nice and is sanitary and easy to clean, but case is pretty flimsy. That's okay if you don't plan on moving it around much.
