Reviewed by Katydid from Pennsylvania on Wednesday, May 08, 2013I exchanged the Asolo FSN 70's (Editor's choice award, Backpacker Mag) for these. What a difference! The minute I took these Attivas out of the box and slid them on, I knew they would be just like all the other Asolo's I have worn out. That is, a perfect fit. Comfort like a slipper. Outstanding performance on the Appalachian Trail. I have put thousands of miles on Asolo boots and I fully expect to use these for at least a thousand. I have been wearing them on short hikes around my neighborhood to get ready for another AT hike next week. I can revise this review when I put them to the ultimate test there.

Reviewed by Jerzee from Northern New Je on Tuesday, February 26, 2013I've had these two weeks and have been out on two 3+ mile hikes and have worn them around town. So far, they are great. As for size, I'm usually a 9, but after looking at other reviews, went for an 8.5 and it is still a smidge bigger than I expected. But, so far it hasn't had any impact on comfort; I just wear thick socks.

Answer The Atlantis is a heavier and an inch taller than the Attiva.

Question “I am looking for a boot for dog tracking which is on uneven terrain. I definetly want Gore-tex because we track through water and wet grass and snow. I want ankle support because we move at high speed, behind a big strong dog, over uneven terrain and I might have to navigate lumps and burrows or unseen holes and not fall down. I hope not to twist my ankles. I also want a sole with good traction on wet grass, mud and/or rough surfaces. We will climb hills and fences and go over logs in the woods. I also want it to be flexible around the toe area so my foot feels comfortable running...The foot has to be able to bend. I don't want to feel like I am wear a hard cast around my feet. I guess this is a tall order but it seems the Asolo must havde a model that can offer these features.”

Answer I think these will serve you well in most aspects except the flexibility part. Asolo's have a moderately stiff sole, but it will loosen up after time and use. I think Asolo is the way to go far your needs and wants. Allow for a break in process before you take them right in to the field.

Question “My feet are narrow, but have developed bunions in the past couple of years. So now I need a boot that is narrow but with a wide toe box. How wide is the toe box?”

Answer These have a nice wide toe box. I usually wear two pair of socks a thin under liner and then my hiking socks.I could wear them all day. I am 65 and have never worn such a good shoe for walking. It took me this long to realize I cannot do everything in my New Balance sneakers.

Answer I do not know whether you have made a decision on this yet, or found a suitable answer. I would have to say that there are many factors that would affect the answer to this question. Are your feet wider than the average, do you have a high arch etc. etc.?||For me personally, I wear a 7 for open shoes (sandals). However, when it comes to hiking and running, I find a 7 too small and my toes push against the front. I normally wear a size 8 for hiking and running. I can also tell you that on Asolo brands, I wear 8.5 as I find the 8 a little too narrow for me.||A good check for me is to try the shoes on and push my toes right to the front, if I can fit two fingers in behind my heel (about an inch), I know that running in the shoes won't cause me problems.

Answer This is not necessarily true. I actually bought a half size larger and am happy with the result. However, I tend to use these boots for serious hiking only for which I also wear two pairs of performance socks.

I am an Australian 8, European 38 in regular shoes? I assume I'd need to go at least half a size up in hiking shoes in Australian sizes. How about US sizes?”
