Been wearing these boots for about two weeks now in northern PA in February and so far very pleased! It's been very wet and cold and so far my feet have stayed dry and warm. Worn them on a day hike in fresh snow up to 5" without issue--uppers stayed dry, traction was good, and the Gore-Tex did it's ... Read More

I picked up a pair of Asolo trail shoes that are similar to these boots at the same time, and my review for them applies pretty much the same to these boots:

"Bought these based on the discounted price since you can't have too many hiking boots. They are quite comfy as the upper conforms well to your foot. Good traction in the limited use I have put to them, and comfy for all day wear in the office. No break in required and true to size. The leather upper makes it a bit warm though, but it doesn't bother me that much."

If anything the boots are a little warmer, but that doesn't really reduce my positive rating for them. I like the quality and the fit, and will probably buy more in the future.

I was not sure about buying these at first as they looked like they would be too narrow for my feet from the picture. After purchase we have had weeks of snow in Portland so I had a chance to try them out. They are the most comfortable hiking shoes I have ever had even right out of the box. I have been wearing them almost everyday to work and around town. They are so comfortable I bought the same shoe in women's for my wife and am thinking about buying a second pair in a different color. They have held up perfectly in the snow and ice. Will be interested in seeing what happens when we hike.

Great price for high quality boots. They are comfortable and keep my feet dry. They fit true to size. I found them on sale and wouldn't hesitate to buy them again. Even thought about buying a second pair.

I've been wearing this pair for the past week, and it has really provided comfort and style to my footwear collection. If you have boney feet like me, you'll feel the rubber heel rubbing on your heel a bit, but that's expected for a hard piece on a piece of footwear. It's pretty light, provides regular/decent ankle support, and incredibly flexible. Highly recommended, would buy again (as long as the quality and the price is the same).

Just to confirm everyone's suspicion, I did the waterproof-or-not test by dunking the pair into a bucket full of water. I thought it felt a little damp, but I don't really know - I think people have been feeling condensation actually, since most people will use cold water to run this simple test. It kinda felt damp, but then again nothing of a major leak.

Friend of mine owned a few pair of these and I liked the look of the shoe. Purchased my first pair and they have since taken over as my everyday shoe, I choose them over any other shoe I own. So far they have held up and dealt well with what I have thrown at them, and I am not kind to footwear. They work equally well in the city and on the trail for a hike, but this isn't a heavy hiking/hunting boot and should not be used or viewed as such. After I switched out the insoles, it is nothing for me to wear these for 12 - 14 hours at a time. Highly recommend this shoe.

  • “i have problem feet, i really need stiff boots, how stiff r they?”
Asked by Henry from California on 2/13/2017 3:29:57 PM
    • This Cactus is not particularly stiff. Pretty flexible, in fact. The Asolo TPS 520 is as stiff a boot as I've ever worn, and I love them both.

    • This boot is not particularly stiff in my opinion.

    • As I recall, the gusset goes to about 2 inches from the top. I sent them back, so I can't check the boots.

    • All the way to the top.
Answered on 10/19/2015 2:03:16 PM by Danny from Nevada
    • The high part of the gusset where it attaches to the tongue is 2" to top, the high part of the gusset where it attaches to the body of boot is 2 3/8" to top and the lowest part of the gusset, in the dip or bottom of gusset fold is 2 3/4" to top. Have read where it can be intrusive but have not had a problem with that and have put around 75 miles on so far, all on a packed bike track, typically rough on feet because of speed and hammering. Had to trim the left insole at heal left just a tiny bit to keep from rubbing but fine now. If you buy them wear them around the house for a few days to get the feel of them and don't wrench the laces real tight, play around with them.

    • I am an E width and my length is 11. If I nudge up a half size on shoes it works out ok. The size upsize gives me more width but sometimes too long and the footbed may not fit either. From what I have discovered, Asolo shoes are very precise in width and length, they have a extremely high quality feel fit. I have found that the Asolo Cactus and Mantra are true to size....BUT........they are suede and they flex nicely and conform to a wider foot. I'm not sure I would try ordering my size 11 in a shoe that was less flexible. The Cactus are nicely flexible but not overly so

Answer: I think your D+ width or even E would work well in the Cactus, just order your regular size 9 in the standard width. I think you'll be just great. I hope so! They are super nice shoes if you like Asolo.
There are so many factors to a shoe fitting a feeling "right". I have rather flat feet but not entirely flat which makes my foot "spread" wide to an E.

    • I would recommend sizing up by 1/2 size because the shoes will fit perfectly for a regular width individual. Anything wider will be a bit tight; also, the insoles are not the highest quality--these tend to bunch up in the heel area. I've replaced mine with a better quality insoles. The new insoles and sizing up made all the difference.
      These are still great shoes.

I would guess you would want the proper width. It might be worth the gamble, I have never had shoes fit this well right out of the box, these are sweet!

    • I think so. Sometimes I find the lace to the toe boots to narrow, but these have fit me well, and I am a solid D width. They are snug to get on for me but comfornable once on, I don't lace them tight.
