These boots are fantastic, especially if you're looking for, and are used to, lighter footwear. After years of wearing heavy duty backpacking boots (all day, every day) I switched to the opposite end of the spectrum and began wearing barefoot running shoes full-time. Nowadays, my feet feel like gian... Read More

Asolo Cactus is a lightweight versatile hiker suitable for city and trail. The Cactus fits snug, perhaps a little too snug in the heel area, but great everywhere else. I like the lacing to the toe, allowing flexibility for thicker socks when needed. Contrary to other reviewers, this boot is not floppy. It's not overly padded either. It is a fairly stiff boot that responds quickly without extra bulk in the uppers. The sole and tread are mildly aggressive, Vibram quality, and should last a few years. So far I'm happy with this purchase, and would recommend these to a friend. For the price, they can't be beat.

Everything I read told me Asolo runs narrow and a bit small. I ordered a half size larger than normal and these fit well. Asolo apparently does not believe in padded insole, so I ADDED one over the one that comes with this shoe .. fits like a comfortable glove now! I wear them everywear, including to the office!

Been wearing these boots for about two weeks now in northern PA in February and so far very pleased! It's been very wet and cold and so far my feet have stayed dry and warm. Worn them on a day hike in fresh snow up to 5" without issue--uppers stayed dry, traction was good, and the Gore-Tex did it's job. I've also been wearing them several days a week on a construction site, again, several hours each day on my feet outside in the snow and mud. They are lightweight and comfortable right out of the box with decent support and great foot hold. I've seen some reviews describe these as a minimalist boot but I'd have to disagree. Having worn minimalist shoes and boots for the last 4 years (2 pair of NB Minimus, 2 pair of Inov-8 running shoes, Inov-8 Roclite 400 Gtx lite hikers, Nike Free SFB combat boots, as well as traditional combat boots (primarily Danner's) for the Marine Corps) the Asolo Cactus are much sturdier than any of the minimalist shoes I've worn. The sole is significantly thicker and more stable than the Inov-8 Roclites and they blow the Nike Free SFB out of the water in stability and support even being 2" shorter. If you're used to a hardier hiking boot or a traditional combat boot (ie the Danner's I've worn for 4 years) then yes, these will feel much more minimalistic to you. But make no mistake, these boots provide significantly more support and stability than a regular tennis shoe let alone a minimalist shoe. Having grown up in Colorado I personally won't hesitate to wear these boots anywhere, on or off trail. Provide good ground feel and flex without feeling every single pebble. They run true to size I think, ordered the 10 I normally wear and have had no issues with a nice mid-weight sock fitting comfortably. I got these on sale and now that I've worn them if I ever need another pair I won't hesitate to pay MSRP for them. Great boot, comfortable and versatile! You won't regret these!

I just received my boots a few days ago and haven't had a chance to really try them out. The fit seems true to size and I especially like all of the laces, they enable me to custom tighten the fit. The boots are very light, just what I was looking for.

    • Answer I am an E width and my length is 11. If I nudge up a half size on shoes it works out ok. The size upsize gives me more width but sometimes too long and the footbed may not fit either. From what I have discovered, Asolo shoes are very precise in width and length, they have a extremely high quality feel fit. I have found that the Asolo Cactus and Mantra are true to size....BUT........they are suede and they flex nicely and conform to a wider foot. I'm not sure I would try ordering my size 11 in a shoe that was less flexible. The Cactus are nicely flexible but not overly so

Answer: I think your D+ width or even E would work well in the Cactus, just order your regular size 9 in the standard width. I think you'll be just great. I hope so! They are super nice shoes if you like Asolo.
There are so many factors to a shoe fitting a feeling "right". I have rather flat feet but not entirely flat which makes my foot "spread" wide to an E.

    • Answer I would recommend sizing up by 1/2 size because the shoes will fit perfectly for a regular width individual. Anything wider will be a bit tight; also, the insoles are not the highest quality--these tend to bunch up in the heel area. I've replaced mine with a better quality insoles. The new insoles and sizing up made all the difference.
      These are still great shoes.

    • Answer I these things fit like a glove. They are much more fitted"I these things fit like a glove. They are much more "fitted" than a standard hiking boot, more like a climbing shoe almost. I would guess you would want the proper width. It might be worth the gamble, I have never had shoes fit this well right out of the box, these are sweet!

    • Answer I think so. Sometimes I find the lace to the toe boots to narrow, but these have fit me well, and I am a solid D width. They are snug to get on for me but comfornable once on, I don't lace them tight.

  • Question “Is size listed UK or USA?”
Asked on 12/31/2013 8:09:14 AM by Erick from Indiana
    • Answer Sizing is USA, however it is not accurate. The Cactus boots should be ordered a half to full size smaller than what you normally wear.
