5.0 out of 5 stars. Great boot, perfect middle ground between mountaineering and minimalist hiker
Verified Buyer Reviewed by semperfi2015 from Pennsylvania, Colorado on Wednesday, February 18, 2015
Been wearing these boots for about two weeks now in northern PA in February and so far very pleased! It's been very wet and cold and so far my feet have stayed dry and warm. Worn them on a day hike in fresh snow up to 5" without issue--uppers stayed dry, traction was good, and the Gore-Tex did it's job. I've also been wearing them several days a week on a construction site, again, several hours each day on my feet outside in the snow and mud. They are lightweight and comfortable right out of the box with decent support and great foot hold. I've seen some reviews describe these as a minimalist boot but I'd have to disagree. Having worn minimalist shoes and boots for the last 4 years (2 pair of NB Minimus, 2 pair of Inov-8 running shoes, Inov-8 Roclite 400 Gtx lite hikers, Nike Free SFB combat boots, as well as traditional combat boots (primarily Danner's) for the Marine Corps) the Asolo Cactus are much sturdier than any of the minimalist shoes I've worn. The sole is significantly thicker and more stable than the Inov-8 Roclites and they blow the Nike Free SFB out of the water in stability and support even being 2" shorter. If you're used to a hardier hiking boot or a traditional combat boot (ie the Danner's I've worn for 4 years) then yes, these will feel much more minimalistic to you. But make no mistake, these boots provide significantly more support and stability than a regular tennis shoe let alone a minimalist shoe. Having grown up in Colorado I personally won't hesitate to wear these boots anywhere, on or off trail. Provide good ground feel and flex without feeling every single pebble. They run true to size I think, ordered the 10 I normally wear and have had no issues with a nice mid-weight sock fitting comfortably. I got these on sale and now that I've worn them if I ever need another pair I won't hesitate to pay MSRP for them. Great boot, comfortable and versatile! You won't regret these!

  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. Product is great, delivery not so much
Verified Buyer Reviewed by nwnh from Laramie, Wy on Wednesday, July 22, 2020
Probably the third pair of these I've ordered and more than that if counting different asolo shoes. The delivery on this was via the Fed-ex Post economy shipping. The shipped it from Cheyenne to Laramie but Fed-ex picked it up in Cheyenne, took it to their distribution location, shipped it to Denver, handed it over to USPS, took it to their Denver area location, took it back to Cheyenne to the USPS station, then took it to Laramie Post Office then it went out for delivery. Needless to say, all of these hops and hand-offs back and for through sorting and distribution centers aggregated delays and a very excess delivery time. They took a long time to get delivered. not a model of efficiency. Laramie is but 45 miles from Cheyenne. Other than that. Great Product.

Just bought another pair of Asolo boots. They are light weight and supportive with a grippy Vibram sole. They look and wear slightly like a climbing shoe and felt great out of the box. Great boots delivered by a great company.
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. I love these boots from Asolo

This is my 2nd pair and I love them!!. Its a great high-quality approach boot. Its lightweight with good stability and very flexible right out of the box. Minimal break-in period needed if any. It's my favorite go-to boot for any outdoor activity. Love the suede leather because it's softer and more flexible. Love the Vibram sole too.
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Best of the light-weights by far!

I'm on my third pair of these amazing hiking boots in six years. I wear them til the Vibram sole wears thin in the heal. The traction is superb on stone and in the trees. I put them up for the winter months and wear them daily for the other 8 months.I get great comments on their appearance all the time! Thanks Sierra for such an excellent offering.
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Good light duty boot

They are my all day, every day boots. Comfortable to wear siting at a desk, or on a 5-mile hike. They wouldn't be my first choice if I was going on a 30-mile backpacking trip, but I have other, heavier boots for that. They also wouldn't be my first choice to wear in cold weather, they are pretty thin. But the rest of the year, for regular day to day use for an active person they are hard to beat.
