I just received my boots in the mail and was pleased with the quick shipping. The boots are a little roomy but I will probably get inserts to go in them. They are comfortable and look like they will be a great hiking boot.

I'm on my second pair. These are without question the best boots I've ever owned. I beat the snot out of these boots every single day (and then some) and they have held up way beyond expectations. They are comfortable and give great support on rough terrain. The little pinch clips in the upper lacing system give you a chance to pull up the laces to cinch up the lower section (and hold it) and then you can finish up the top to support your ankles separately. Genius! If I could give these boots 10 stars I would.

  • Question “How do you tighten the front of the boot? The laces are crimped in the first hook. Is the only answer prying the hook open so the lace will move?”
Asked on 9/4/2011 12:00:00 AM by looselaces from az
    • Answer The first hook is made to be a snug fit for the lace to make it easier to get your laces snug. The laces should "pop" in and out of the hook. You want to adjust your laces snug and then pop them in the first hook then continue lacing up the boot.

  • Question “How well do you project these boots would hold up after a year for a 150lb person who is carrying about 80lbs of gear on a regular basis?”

    • Answer My last pair lasted three plus years and I beat the sh out of them!!!
Answered on 11/18/2010 12:00:00 AM by bergie from Gardiner Mt.
    • Answer I would not regard this model of Asolos as a true backpacking boots. These are high quality hikers but not heavy enough for 80 pound loads on a consistent basis. You'll need a heavy leather boot with a wide stable platform. Probably something with a Norweigian welt type of sole. At one tinme Reichle made a beautiful mountaineering boot, but I think they're pretty much out of business now. The old adage, "the heavier the load, the heavier the boot" has been true since the time of the Roman legions.
Answered on 3/21/2011 12:00:00 AM by Nikkor from Scottsdale, Arizona
    • Answer It would be my opinion that they would do fine provided you replace the stock insoles. Any boot will likely have some issues after a year consistently under that sort of load. I work outdoors all day in mine and they have seemingly held up pretty well particularly for the price. 170# and carrying 40 ish all day.
Answered on 5/30/2011 12:00:00 AM by Bubba from Memphis, TN
    • Answer carrying a heavy load like 80lbs for extended periods would be most beneficial to wear a heavier backpacking boot, which has a little stiffer sole.these boots are a 'hiking boot' designed for shorter trips and light loads.look into a boot that is specifically made for backpacking which will be much more comfortable for a heavy load on extended trips.

    • Answer After one year, if not sooner, and 230lbs on a regular basis you will want to buy a new pair.
