I am a beginner, so I don't have any comparisons to make. Overall, I am extremely happy with the value of these boots. I looked around for a long time, but ultimately the "best backpacking boot" award from backpacker magazine, along with the price, made me decide on this boot. For me, they fit just a bit larger than I expected (perhaps an extra sock larger). The boots feel very sturdy and not too heavy.

My first pair finally wore out after several years. I definately wanted another pair by Asolo. These are a great pair of boots. Everything I wanted in them they have.

The tongue folds inside and is sewn in. The folds put pressure on my ankle and can be very irritating. Hopefully, they will break in, but right now I can't wear them too long.

Many boots don't come in wide width, but these do. If you think you might want a wide width, definitely order them instead of the regular width. The regular width is fairly narrow. I ordered one half size up to accommodate wearing thick socks.

First the good: these boots are very comfortable right out of the box and fit me well. They were good-looking and well made. the bad: slippery on wet and on dry rock at not so steep angles = a deal-breaker for me, I value my life. I slipped and fell twice on wet rocks with these on going down hill. The soles are hard rubber and look like they are 1/2 worn out ie very shallow tread. I am used to the stickiness of vibram soles and was unpleasantly surprised with these Asolo-branded soles. Too bad as everything else is 100%. Bottom line: Not great for hiking/backpacking where you may be on steep terrain but may be good for casual wear as the slippery sole seems to be designed more for the street than for traction. I'm going to look for something else to hike in. I can't believe these boots won a 1st place award from Backpacker Magazine.

A great mid duty hiking boot. Lacing system is superior allowing for small incremental adjustments as needed. This is my second pair and I am very pleased with this year round hiking boot. I have a wider foot and this boot is available in Wide sizes.Very durable.

These are my winter every day boots for being the tourist and such. I was running late one day and I mistakenly put them on for work, they were great I just did not want to mess them up. I work outdoors as a bomb disposal technician.
