Great shoe as it is lightweight, comfortable and sturdy. Also, very well made. These shoes do run about one size large, however, I tried these on at the store and was told that for hiking, it is advised to buy one size larger than your normal size. This accommodates a thick sock and it prevents you... Read More

My boyfriend purchased these boots for me ona whim. Have nothing but great things to say about them. Felt the need to write a review after this last hike -

After 12 miles in Catskills ... warm and comfortable from start to finish!
    Rocky/dry river bed ascent
Snow and slushy conditions at summit
Dry feet even after falling into a raging stream.
A little water came but only because foot was submerged - came in over top of ankle.

    I wear a 9.5 regular shoe - bought boot in 9.5 - perfect fit

Just did a 12 mile in the Catskills - my feet were very warm and very comfortable the whole time. I'm usually used to a breaking-in period for hiking boots - not with these. Super fit right out of the box.

Would buy Asolo's again (had never heard of them before)

I never buy shoes online. Especially important ones, like hiking boots. You've got to feel them to know if they fit right, where they will hit your ankles, toes and back of the heel, how heavy they are, and a million other little details. But this time I took a chance and ordered these hiking boots. Jackpot! Super light but still very firm in the ankle support area. Nice, solid sole. I've been walking around in them for a couple weeks already to break them in for an upcoming trip. I like them so much I can't believe it. I have high arched, wide foot. These still provide me with plenty of room even when I'm wearing thick socks. I usually wear a 6 1/2-7. Ordered a 7 and they are just fine. I give these boots five out of five stars. For the price, you CANNOT beat them. I'd even pay much more. Very pleasantly surprised.

    • Answer I just came home from a hike in these boots. I live in VT, where it finally snowed about a week ago. The snow on the path was about 4 inches deep, hard and crusty, not especially slick most of the time. The boots felt sturdy and supportive, and the traction was good. I would use them with crampons though if the conditions were icier. Their waterproofing is good, but I can't speak to their warmth because I used toe warmers.

    • Answer We just got back from a trip to Fairbanks, Alaska for viewing the Northern Lights and dogsledding! They were perfect! Warm with a heavy sock, stabile on the slick snow and completely dry feet! We have bought 2 pair for the cold Colorado winters and love them! Haven't used them with our snowshoes yet, but plan to. No reason they won't perform as perfectly as they have for every other use! They are also great in the summer for hiking and fishing for good ankle stability!

    • Answer I have snowshoes with mine here in Utah and they are great. I think the key with these boots is definitely have a great, warm, tall, well padded technical sock. I feel the insole could have some more cushion so I insert my Asia running shoe insole and use Phd Smartwool ski or snowboard socks. The boots are warm and comfortable and fit true to size. I am a women's size 6.

    • Answer The tread is not completely smooth, however the variations are subtle. The tread depth is 3/16s of an inch. I'm not familiar with the other boots you mentioned so do not know how they compare.

    • Answer Hi, I know that this is days after you sent question but I thought I would respond. I have only worn Asolo hiking boots for my work, as I work in the field in Colorado for the US Forest Service. I have been extremely happy with the tread, and I wear these in streams, off trail, on logs, etc. Obviously a different environment than you and your daughter, but I am very happy with them. And I know what it is like to have no tread as I wore my last pair until they became a liability! I wore them to nothing!

    • Answer US Sizing. I found that the sizing I need in this brand is the size I wear every day, if not running a smudge smaller.

      Hope that helps!
