Just received the Asolo Powermatic 100's and WOW! I got these after returning the Alico Guide Mountaineering boots which killed my feet. The Powermatics are comfortable right out of the box. I did get a wide and it's a perfect fit. THESE BOOTS RUN VERY NARROW. I wear a regular in all other boots... Read More

I've worn a pair of Asolo 520's for years and figured that these would be a smart bet to buy online since the old 520's fit perfectly and are sadly falling apart. After researching to make sure that the soles are built on the same last (Asoflex 00 MR lasting board), I purchased an 11.5 wide. They arrived a bit bigger (longer and wider) than my old 520's (from 2008) but are fitting much better after some use and a good pair of orthonics.

Knowing that nubuck doesn't typically last as long as top grain is ok w/ me as the price of these is more than 1/2 off the asolo top grains (assuming you take advantage of an STP coupon). I'm treating the leather with Obenauf's LP which has darkened the leather handsomely and caused it to look and feel more like a top grain. The end result might last as long as my old ones did, who knows!

The boots look great. They are well constructed and do not appear to be blems or seconds. Mine arrived just like I would expect from Asolo and had not been previously worn.

They also offer the needed support for hauling heavy loads up and down steep slopes.

I took off one star because - around the oval shaped Asolo logo on the sides of the boots, the stitching had loose/frayed ends that had to be brushed with silicone to ensure the stitches would not back out. All other stitching and gluing was fine.

Ordered my usual boot size and had a perfect fit.
Great quality, Great fit, Great price ( Thanks STP ).

At first, I was hesitant to order this boot, they aren't cheap and they aren't made in the USA. Right out of the box, these concerns were blown away. Excellent fitment (I ordered the wide based on previous reviews and I am glad I did), while I don't have a super wide foot, most D-width shoes / boots are snug, some are just too tight. These Asolo's are very well crafted, snug (regular width would have been too narrow) and comfortable right away. I wore them all day with no issues, each day thereafter they have become even more comfortable. I put boots to the test, but if they can make my feet happy, that is a remarkable compliment to the overall design and quality these boots possess. When it's cold outside, these boots provide warmth; when it's wet, they provide perfectly dry shelter; when the terrain is tough, they provide stability and confidence. One note: On ice and mossy trees, these boots do NOT provide good traction, the hard soles are meant more for rocks and rough terrain. This is truly an exceptional boot and STP has the best price!

These are boots of the highest quality with an excellent fit. The Vibram sole is durable and provides excellent support for long hikes while carrying heavy loads (60 - 80 pounds). Sometimes I wish the boots had slightly better traction, but that is the only gripe I can come up with. I have owned various other expensive top of the line footwear from Cabelas and other outfitters in my quest to find a truly exceptional boot. The search stopped here. After 3 years of wearing asolo boots I believe them to be the best hiking and hunting boot on the market so I bought a second pair. I know that everyone's feet are different; what works for me might not work for everyone. I'm flat footed and regular width feet. I use a Miendel cork insole (1 1/2 sizes smaller than the boot size) and it fits perfect. For deep snow I'll wear Asolo gaiters in combination with my boots. Bottom line: great boot for many applications.

I am very happy with the fit and finish of these boots. The cushioning in the sole is an unexpected treat. After I put some boot oil on them they broke in quickly and they breath just fine with the gortex. This purchase motivated me to send off my Montrail Morains to be re-soled. No reason to not have two good pairs of boots.

    • Answer I love my Asolo 100's. Before I bought them I also compared them to the 200's. Not much difference at all is what I found. Same movement in the sole, same quality and I saved more than 100 dollars. I have used them for the last three months volunteering on the AT rebuilding trail and hiking. My feet never got wet and I never obtained one blister, not one, and they were brand new when I started. I think it is an excellent boot. Before I bought them I compared them to Lowa, Solomon and a couple of others. Most of the others said they were water proof but the reviews said they were not, also the other boots did not have the flexibility of the Asolo. I am 57, done a lot of hiking and I'm afraid I have to say this but they really are the best boot I have ever worn. Hope that helps.

    • Answer Good question. Yes, sizes are US standard shoe/boot sizes. Sierra's website has a UK and EU conversion table on their website, if applicable.
I'veve too made the mistake of ordering a US size only to discover it was a EU size.

    • Answer The only differance I can see is the soles. I have a pair of each, the sassalon, I bought two years ago and have put allot of miles on them. They are a great boot for the money. I do a bunch of hiking in the high country and they have held up very well. The soles are worn almost smooth so I tried a pair of the Powermatic this time with the rubber sole to see if they would hold up better walking in the scree fields. I like them so far but haven't give them the ultimate test yet.

    • Answer I bought these on the recommendation of a family member who has been backpacking for 30 years and has owned many pairs of Asolo boots. Both boots have merits , I like the micro pulley system for the shoe laces on the powermatic ,makes them super easy to remove and tighten. I hike the mountains of Colorado and so far these boots have proved superior to any other boot I have had.

    • Answer I have a D width foot and I ordered the regular. I was concerned about it too but, these boots fit really well. Unless you have an extra wide foot, order the regular.

    • Answer I do not know the exact measurement difference between the two, but I chose the wide width after trying on similiar Asolo boots at different outdoor shops. If you have this option then I suggest that. I have what is considered a wide foot and the wide fit my foot much better. The Newer Powermatic(200) is a similar cut boot. I could not find it in the wide anywhere but found another similar Asolo boot that came in wide and felt that the extra width made a big difference. It allowed me to order a 10.5 instead of an 11. They are a great feeling boot. I have been out on two hikes and they felt good. They replaced a 40 year old pair of Raichle's.
