No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I wear my belts right at the waist, not lower on the hip. So, the size XL should have fit my size 16/18 waist just fine. But instead, I had to really cinch it up in order to get the first notch buckled. Not very good for the self-esteem, but more importantly, doesn't fit very well either. I had to return this item.

This belt is lovely, light but strong, very nice leather. The croc print looks classy. I got it two colors; purple is very dark almost black, light brown is very versatile. Re sizing, I'm an 8 - 10 and got both medium and large, use second hole in medium and the fourth hole in the large, so both work.

Another great deal from Sierra Trading Post. Beautiful, high-quality belt in a classic, flattering style. Dark taupe color is pretty but neutral so looks nice with khakis, dress slacks, and jeans. Have had it for 1 week and it's already my favorite belt. Only caution is size, I'm a medium (8-10) in almost everything but based on other reviews, I ordered a large, which fits perfectly.

The sizing of this product is confusing if you rely on Customer Reviews. The differences are likely due to preferred pant styles. For belt lines at or just below the waist, this accessory is true to size. It looks great, and the navy is dark enough that I can use it with black. I'm happy.
