Over the years I have purchased a total of six or seven of these single pelts. They are nearly indestructible. Visitors to our home are always drawn to the warmth, texture and luxury of this product. So much so that I have begun giving them as gifts. Two of the recipients use them in their beds to k... Read More

While not as thick as some sheepskins we've owned, this one is incredibly soft, and the dark brown is a nice, natural color. We wanted it to line a modern, dark leather chair that needed a touch of comfort. It works just fine.

Thick pelt. Well known manufacturer. Great price. Here is their care guide: http://auskin.com/why-auskin-sheepskin/care-and-storage#brushing

I have made over 70 purchases in the last 3 years with Sierra Trading Post, I buy pretty much everything but food and household cleaning items from them. A totally awesome company who has customer service that treats you like close family. I don't make a lot of money. I have learned to live well by buying the best quality for my buck, and turning m friends on to STP as well. As for my love of the single wool pelts, I had recently purchased two double wool and two single wool pelts in brown and black. I like that they are natural,, sustainable, cleanable with a washer, brush, etc.....I live pretty rustic. I am not a smart phone carrying urbanite. Pelts are my chairs in my apartment. There is something very primal and intimate about animal skins. These were not slaughtered in vain, they were food, clothes, shoes, rugs. These are great to sit or lay upon. I do have a lot of animal compassion and have raised goats, sheep, cats and dogs. The latter are very carnivorous. Politics aside, this is a beautifully processed product/ with no animal smell that would repel your visitors. Excellent quality for the price.

These auskin sheepskins are great. They are truly comfortable in all seasons and pets love them too. The single pelt I just purchased is super fluffy - more uniform pile than the multi-pelts which have a greater variety of textures. I have these all over my house. They protect furniture actually, and are so welcoming to peple and pets alike.

Bought in gray to go in a bedroom as a bedside rug--everyone likes it, including the cats.

I bought a single and a double pelt of the ivory rugs. Liked them so much that I turned around and ordered two more. They look great on my hallway floor and even on the back of my couch. My tiny Poodle went absolutely nutso for it. He's been sleeping on it every day since. I would say that they are true to the color in the photos and, really, even nicer than I was expecting.

  • Question “Which colors are undyed? Thank you!”
Asked on 5/23/2014 10:30:25 PM by Birdie from Minneapolis
    • Answer I am sorry but I am not sure what you mean by "undyed". I believed that all the pelts are dyed and that none of them are in their natural state.

    • Answer Hi,

My backing measures 37 1/2 inches in length for the backing. The longwook sticks out another 2 inches on each end with a total measurement of 41 1/2 inches. If the long wool is brushed up or gets matted of course it would be shorter. Hope this helps, it really is a nice pelt and I found out that the company Auskin only gets pelts from sheep that have been slaughtered for meat. They do not kill just for the pelts. In light of that I ordered 2 of the shorter ( and cheaper ) pelts for my dogs but have not received them yet.

    • Answer I would assume that it is an approximate (or minimum) measurement of the skin itself (the white backing, as you say). You sent me scrambling for my tape measure. I measured two of mine, as the other two are being set on. The skin side of one was 39" and the other was 38,75".

    • Answer Thanks folks. I have one that is almost 40" long on pelt side and just got another locally to Match but it's only 36". Full 4" shorter ! I may just order one through here and see what I end up with!

    • Answer 38.5" is the size of the white backing. The fur sticks out (or up) another 1.5" all around.
Answered on 1/24/2014 12:17:54 PM by SEGS from Ohio
    • Answer I just measured the backing and it was 37 inches, so I would assume the 38.5 inches is the fur "hanging" over the backing.l

    • Answer Sorry to take a while to answer. I had just washed the two rugs I had, and it took four days for them to dry completely on the line. After their first washing, the leather side was 32 x 24. After I brushed out the wool, the wool side measured 36 x 26. I didn't measure them prior to washing, but I had always figured the size of the rug was approximate because each sheep that contributed the pelt naturally varied in size.
