My wife bought this pack for our Border Collie, who felt "left out" when my son and I hiked our Ranch training for a backpack trip with our Heeler/Aussie. I bought the Heeler the Granite Gear pack and it was worth every penny. This Aussie pack sits further back on the spine, and the straps work fine but are akin to wearing a backpack with ropes for shoulder straps. Theyre on but not so cushy. The saddle bags are fine too, but unlike the Granite Gear saddlebags, which are angled toward the front of the dog, thus keeping weight on the shoulders....these are straight and the bag sinks dead center of the spine. The good is that the pack is inexpensive, and does work, but I'm thinking light load here...and the load doesn't like to stay balanced...though in all fairness, it may balance better on bigger dogs. It's essentially cotton, so it's gonna soak moisture like a sponge. If it's being used for the fair weather, day hike on a med to large dog, it's fine and economical. Going backpacking, spend the $ and get the Granite Gear.
