I haven't tried all the meals yet but the ones so far are as good as my Mountain House brand. The deserts are very good. I know the calories are low for two but I supplement with energy bars, nuts, and other snacks throughout my hikes as normal routine. I recommend letting the meals steam at least two or three more minutes than the package recommends, especially anything with noodles or rice, the same as my Mountain House. STP has much better pricing than REI, who also carries the meals.

When I purchased these meals, there was not a full disclosure of ingredients. I looked at the usual ingredients on their website, which seemed good, so I purchased the pack. Aside from the modified food starch, the breakfasts and dinners are pretty wholesome, but the desserts are horrific. THEY ALL CONTAIN HYDROGENATED OIL AND MANY CONTAIN HIGH-FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP. To those of you who don't care, go for it, they're delicious, but for those of you who do care, you will probably have to gift the desserts to a distant acquaintance. Aside from the deserts, they are tasty and practical. Even the eggs came out well. To the reviewer amazed at the colesterol content in the egg breakfasts - have you looked at eggs lately? Just eating two eggs puts you over the RDA for cholesterol. But that egg yolk is great for you, providing all kinds of nutrients you need, especially as a vegetarian (in this vegetarian meal pack). Also, I don't think there is too much salt. It tasted just right to me. After hiking all day, I sometimes want something even saltier.

I get these prepackaged meal packs every year or so to be used for quick meal plans for "unplanned" backpack trips. I use a meal pack for a 3 day hike when I have someone with me to share or I get 5-6 days with careful measuring to give myself 2 meals from a 2 person serving. This is not a complete meal pack to my way of thinking. What is missing: There is now trail mix or trail bars to munch on while you are hiking - be sure to pack these extra for yourself. There is no drink mix - be sure pack your own hot coco, coffee, tea, Gatorade, etc. As a side note: I am not a big fan of packaged dehydrated meals. I eat them because they are convenient, light weight, and fast. They frequently have more salt added to them than I like.

I have used this product while backpacking here in Colorado for several years now and just LOVE their products. It is easy to use, pour in hot water, let sit for 10-12 minutes and eat!! They are lightweight and very packable. They TASTE GREAT and store for YEARS. They have a good selection of both lunch/dinner, breakfast, and desert meals for three days. They also make a very good emergency food supply for those times when you have no power for several days.

Ok...I live in California and want to be proactive so I can take care of my family in case the big one hits. I started with canned stuff but over the years I find this holds up for much longer. Also easy to use when you feel devestated.

I've eaten a lot of Backpackers Pantry meals over the years on the Appalachian Trail and been very happy with the quality. When you can get the stuff at a substantial discount, it's worth buying.

I haven't made all of the dishes yet, so I can only comment on what I have already tried. The entrees are tastier than I expected, although I did need to add additional spices to pick up the flavors. Even though it may be obvious, boiling water and ample rehydration time is necessary. Not that I really pay attention to it on a regular basis, the cholesterol in the Denver Omelet took me a bit by surprise: 435mg, or 145% of the amount you should consume daily. That aside, I would purchase this again. I will also attempt to add to/amend this review after I have had a chance to prepared the rest of the meals.
