Reviewed by Bob 101 from NW Oregon on Tuesday, May 07, 2013I get these prepackaged meal packs every year or so to be used for quick meal plans for "unplanned" backpack trips. I use a meal pack for a 3 day hike when I have someone with me to share or I get 5-6 days with careful measuring to give myself 2 meals from a 2 person serving. This is not a complete meal pack to my way of thinking. What is missing: There is now trail mix or trail bars to munch on while you are hiking - be sure to pack these extra for yourself. There is no drink mix - be sure pack your own hot coco, coffee, tea, Gatorade, etc. As a side note: I am not a big fan of packaged dehydrated meals. I eat them because they are convenient, light weight, and fast. They frequently have more salt added to them than I like.

It is easy to use, pour in hot water, let sit for 10-12 minutes and eat!! They are lightweight and very packable. They TASTE GREAT and store for YEARS. They have a good selection of both lunch/dinner, breakfast, and desert meals for three days. They also make a very good emergency food supply for those times when you have no power for several days.

I started with canned stuff but over the years I find this holds up for much longer. Also easy to use when you feel devestated.

The entrees are tastier than I expected, although I did need to add additional spices to pick up the flavors. Even though it may be obvious, boiling water and ample rehydration time is necessary. Not that I really pay attention to it on a regular basis, the cholesterol in the Denver Omelet took me a bit by surprise: 435mg, or 145% of the amount you should consume daily. That aside, I would purchase this again. I will also attempt to add to/amend this review after I have had a chance to prepared the rest of the meals.

I bought the vegetarian option. Do know that it is NOT enough calories for 3 people for 3 days. It has a light breakfast and a 3 course lots of calories dinner for 2 people for 3 days, maybe a bit over 1000 calories each per day. So, definitely buy some other shelf stable product for lunch/snacks, like an emergency ration bar, or just plan on one box for 1 person/3 days. We are just going to buy the shelf stable ration bars to store with these.

Reviewed by mick from ca on Wednesday, January 16, 2013I bought these for an extended backpacking trip I'm going to be taking soon. lightweight and concealed packaging makes for a easy, light, trip, or hike. with the ability to prepare the food in the packaging it comes in makes for a quick and almost no dishes meal as you can eat right out of the bag. also the trash you must haul out is minimal. buying this bulk kit at the ultra low price that I paid was too good of a deal to pass up and now I wont be dehydrating as much on my own to take with me.
