These work exactly as advertised: they do indeed keep the silt and sand out of your shoes. Seemed too loose and unstable for my ankles, my weak spot.

I use these shoes mostly for paddling around. The shore line is all rocks from tiny to boulders. The ankle tightness keeps the rocks out. But I can see where this could be a problem for people with larger ankles. Getting them on could be an issue. I have the opposite. Then ankle fits well. The shoe box is to sloppy (I have very thin feet). But these are great. The first water shoes I have tried that actually kept out the rocks.
    • Best Uses: Boating, Kayaking, Rafting, Wading
    • Cons: Fit Around Forefoot
    • Describe Yourself: Intermediate
    • Pros: Good Traction, Kept The Small Rocks Out, Lightweight, Water Drains Quickly
    • Sizing: Feels true to size

    • Width: Feels too wide

Aside from feeling sloppy the mesh was puckered in a couple of places which would probably rub against the foot if the fit was better.
    • Best Uses: Rafting, Wading
    • Cons: Difficult On and Off, Poor Quality
    • Describe Yourself: Intermediate
    • Pros: Good Traction, Lightweight
    • Sizing: Feels too large

These work exactly as advertised: they do indeed keep the silt and sand out of your shoes. The double-layer mesh is what does it - I've had water shoes from other brands, but have always ended up with "crunchy" walking conditions after I go into the creeks that are along all of the trails near where I live. These are fabulous! They are light, comfortable on the trails, and best of all they keep my feet clean in the water. I certainly would not size down, however - I am an 8.5 and the 9s fit, albeit loosely, but the 8 is a smidgen too small.

Beautiful looking shoe, BUT you cannot adjust the tightness around your ankle. I found it to be EXTREMELY TIGHT as the top of my foot is higher making the shoe quite uncomfortable and hurt... aprobable BLISTER AREA! I thought it was too heavy to do pool excerises and that's what I vwanted it for. I could hardly lift my knees to do the excercises and a with a heavy shoe it would make my knees hurt more. It was well made, but not for my purpose. Maybe for wading in a creek. I RETURNED THE SHOES!
    • Best Uses: None if hurts
    • Cons: Neck at ankle hurts, NON-ADJUSTABLE
    • Describe Yourself: Intermediate
    • Pros: Looks Good
    • Sizing: Feels too small
    • Was this a gift?: No
    • Width: Feels true to width
