Barbour Duracotton Duffle Coat (For Men)

I purchased this jacket for school in Great Britain. I wanted something water resistant and warm, but not too heavy. I was also interested in a jacket that had a classic look to it, and you can't beat Barbour for great timeless classic style.

I like the coat, it's a Barbour and that means quality - but the size says it's a large, 42 to 44. I'm normally a 43 short. It's good in the cold and rain - I believe it is waxed cotton. The shoulders are just wide enough, snug when I'm wearing a T-shirt. Really warm and comfortable when I wear a T-shirt. Tight if I wear a sweater or sweatshirt - I can't get my arms into the coat without the shirt sleeves rolling up and getting stuck. My son is really slim and I think I will give it to him.

This coat is well made, but I don't get the design. First, the zipper is on the left side as if the coat was designed for women. (Why wasn't this mentioned in the product description? Is this a British/Barbour standard?) Second, the coat, when zipped, is way too tight in the hips. In fact, it's so tight that it makes it difficult to engage the zipper without pulling it up around waist height. (There is no center back vent -- though that's not expected in this type of coat.) Third, the snapped/flapped pockets are the only two exterior pockets -- no side hand-warmer pockets. Though the product description mentions the flap pockets, the first thing you want to do with this kind of coat is put your hands in the (non-existent) side pockets. I'm returning this to STP because of the above factors.

This is the fourth Barbour coat that I've bought, and although not my favorite, I'm still very pleased with it. Perhaps not the most stylish unless you happen to prefer the sort of clunky English country look, but quality materials, durable construction, and my favorite attribute, high utility (easy on and off, light and comfortable, not too hot or cold, etc.) Only problem I've had w. Barbour is their sizing isn't consistent across different models (XL too big in some coats, sometimes as w. this one too small, and sometimes just right) but STP has an exceptionally customer friendly and easy return and exchange policy, so that's not a real problem w. me.

I bought this coat as a Christmas gift for one of our farm's employees. He loves it. It is a quite fine coat.

Great coat, it is warmer than the weight that you actually would expect from this type of coat. It looks great with the wooden toggles, I've gotten many compliments on it.

This coat is actually warmer/thicker than I thought: it's fleece lined, and fairly wind resistant, and very comfortable. It was 15 degrees with a windchill of -4 this AM, and I was quite comfortable with a dress shirt + sweater underneath. I took the hood off & popped the collar, which is fairly substantial, and didn't need a scarf. Also, the sandstone color is much darker than the pics--it's actually nicer...like a light chocolate. It doesn't seem water resistant (despite the claim)...it was raining yesterday prior to the snow and soaked up the water pretty easily. Also, there's only the 2 pockets, those being in the front: nothing inside, so don't expect a cell phone holder. BOTTOMLINE: more impressed than I thought I would be, but don't expect a raincoat or alot of pocket room.

A perfect coat for around town. Warm enough to use by itself or with a light weight sweater. Barbour style at a great price.The removable hood is a nice touch for really cold weather. Telephone order staff was more than helpful and made ordering quick and easy. [...] I'm very pleased with this, my 6th Barbour coat. Last year I ordered a lightweight Bedale from Sierra and was also very pleased with it.
