This is the most stylish rain hat I've seen online or in a store. It's a bit like an old fashioned "sailor's" hat pictured on little girls 100 years ago other than the back bow is not childishly huge. It does NOT pack well & I was alarmed when I took it out of a shipment of many items in which it had been "squished". The brim edge is wired to keep it stiff which results in it going "every which way" as mentioned in one reviewer's complaint. So did mine. However, she ought to have worked with it. It's made to fit snugly to the head w/o tying under the chin, which makes it more desirable, to me, than most brimmed rain or sun hats, that tend to come with a cowgirl-like under the chin adjustable string. This will stay in place other than in gale winds. You have to work with the brim to get it straightened out after being "rearranged" during shipment. It also relaxes even more when left alone setting on something flat. I have 2 complaints. The "khaki" all season color is ugly, I think, and the other 2 are so dark as to make this hat winter-only. It does rain in the winter, & snow is wet, but most winter jackets other than leather or wool dress coats come with hoods, making this hat unnecessary. It's also a bit dressy. I'd be madly in love with a lighter color that could be worn with a standard khaki trench rain coat, which do NOT come with a hat if made in the traditional manner with cape back, epaulets, etc. My only winter jacket w/o a hood is a Barbour sage green waxed cotton, and the sage green hat would have been "smashing" with it, but it had sold out or was never even available when I received "my update" advertising this item. Seeing that it had been available in sage frustrated me considerably. The navy looks black online & I debated which to order because the camel trim on the navy matches the traditional "black & tan" lining of many high end coat designers, & that includes my treasured cashmere scarf with matching cashmere camel gloves. Not being sure if the navy really looked black in reality, I ordered the black since it could be worn with my black leather jackets (which don't have hoods), the green waxed cotton jacket, and even my dark navy dress coat. If the navy hat looked remotely navy, it wouldn't look good with anything but my dress coat. The gray trim is pretty. My other complaint is the width of the brim. I'm short & have a small face. I've yet to decide if I'm going to keep the hat as much as I truly love the style because I can't decide if it overwhelms my facial structure. My poor husband isn't being much help, just telling me it's "cute" & to keep it if I want it. I've got some bucket hats that are functional, but they don't have style. This is nearly what I would have designed for myself other than the color & the brim width. A rain hat ought to have a more neutral all-season color, like khaki. The "khaki" version of this hat looks awful online, hence I come back to sorrow about missing out on the sage. The black and navy hats almost look like a British mourning hat. So, my summary is that it is a pretty design, probably perfect on someone taller than 5'4" with a larger facial structure, & who doesn't mind a rain hat that is so dark as to be limited to winter use only. It's lined, so would be warm on a snowy day. Your skin tone has to be able to carry off black next to it, & be forewarned about working with the brim to straighten it out. It can be done.
