    I would not hike in these, as they are pretty nice. I like the texture of the shorts, and they look great. When I bought them, I had no clue whether they would be wearable in everyday events.     Did return these as the pattern was not as subtle as shown online. Really like Berle shorts in general. Traditional cut.....moderate leg opening, falls to about knee level, form fitted around the torso without being too tight. So many shorts are so wide that it's like wearing a skirt and so long that you might as well be wearing pants. Also, if you are challenged, as I am, with skinny calves and relatively muscular thighs......this cut shows off the better part. Own two pair, one cotton and one linen. Both are keepers.
