I have worn Birkenstocks for years and love them and finally persuaded him to give them a try. The price was right for the experiment and he has been wearing them without comment since they arrived a couple of weeks ago. They were a lighter in color than I expected and I think we could have ordered one size smaller (he is a size 10 and we ordered a 43.

They are actually made in Spain by Betula, but they are LICENSED by Birckenstock. They are very, very similar to Birckenstock's Arizona sandals. I think they're going to be fine, but the pricing is more understandable now.

Personally I am not crazy about Birkenstock as I find them to be clunky but my husband loves them. He uses them instead of slippers and wears them 12 months of the year. The light beige color on this pair is a bit feminine but, at this low price, who cares.

I just couldn't justify shelling out the $70-$80 a pair when they only last for a couple of years. I'm glad I found these on STP. One caution: the color "taupe" as portrayed in the product photo is much darker than the actual color of the sandals. I'd describe what I received as "cream" or "off-white". If were wearing these anywhere other than inside the home office I would send them back.
