My son in law is an avid, no, fanatical fisherman- has run into the water to get a fish about to unhook itself (my mistake!). He doesn't like high top shoes due to their rigidity and extra weight, and he doesn't want more rocks/sand/pebbles annoying and distracting him. These shoes are a rare design and fit all his fishing shoe needs- he hikes to inaccessible spots, so an all felt ain't great; when he gets there he jumps from rock to rock so the felt IS great. And they come in a large size. Even the sports store employees told me that few fish shoes fit young men of today with their size 14-17 feet. WAKE UP, manufacturers!!!!

I used the boots on a 34 mine backpacking trip that had 127 river crossings. What was great was they dried quick and held up well under difficult terrain and were light. The boot could have had a little better ankle support. But over all it performed better than I expected.

I fly fish the Gunpowder River in Maryland and usually walk a mile or two on often muddy trails. These boots grip well on the trail (much better than my felt-soled boots) and do a decent job in the river too. Best of all they are much lighter and less bulky than my felt boots.

    Pros:
Dries Quickly, Easy On and Off, Effective gravel guard, Felt on the outsole, Good Traction
    Cons:
Order 1 size down, Stupid lacing system
    Best Uses:
Amphibious hiking, Creeking, Dorking around in a river, Kayaking, Wet wading
    Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
These are the best river shoe for kayaking, wet wading, and creeking that I've been able to find - and i've tried a bunch of others (sorry, they won't let me mention those junkers here). Anyway, the key here is the FELT!! Bottom line is that no rubber in existence gives good traction on wet, slimy river rock. No matter what retarded name they give the rubber, it just doesn't compare to felt. The felt on this shoe is in the right places to do some good (although I would take some more). The sole is sturdy and supportive (no watersock here) and the integrated neoprene gravel guard is a great feature. The elastic lacing system is pure stupidity - cut it off and replace with some old laces. Sizing is tricky too - i wear a size 12 in everything, and i wear size 11s in the Bite Portage - that's with 2mm neoprene socks. Anyway, these babies seem like winners. They've worked great for the first 2 weeks - if they fall apart soon i'll add another review.

I wear a men's size 11 shoe and ordered size 13 to wear with my Simms stocking foot waders. The fit is good and the wading shoes are comfortable. A slightly narrower foot bed than the "Primal Bite" model, these boots are far superior to any typical slip on wading bootie and have adequate support and foot protection. 'Makes walking in my waders bearable and seems much less tiring than my boot foot waders...No contest... So far so good...

I've had a 'sister' pr of boots, the "Flats" model I purchased directly from Bite last Fall...when I saw these from Sierra, I decided to get them as well, as they have a better sole for fishing aorund a rocky/pebbly bottom...and at a great price!...only problem with these, you can't cinch up the anle tight enough to keep deris out well...and the neoprene doesn't adjust tightly enough because there isn't enough velcro for the strap to tighten the slack...funny, because, same size(11)as the Flats, same manufacturer, basically same boot with a different sole ...and the Flats fit just fine...!??

The shoe runs big the poorly design gravel guard runs big.If your wearing the shoe baer footed you would need gaiters to keep out the sand.
