Really got for my son for school, he loves it. Good size for school books, and once ski season starts he will also use it.

I liked the idea of a compact backcountry avalung pack but this design is just too small. Put your climbing skins in the bottom (which you have to do) the essentials, probe, shovel, snack, water supply ect. BARELY can be crammed in. Forget the extra base layer or other tools the pack is just too small. Also it is very difficult to strap on skis on the back of a pack this small, it didn't help that the little strap for securing ski broke immediately before I even attached ski but that is a separate issue. If you are going on backcountry adventure (which is where you need an avalung, you want a lot more space than this go with a bigger pack like the Covert unless you are a very serious minimalist

An easier and better way of having an avalung without having a separate piece on your person. I won't take a hydration bladder into the backcountry in the winter unless it is insulated. The BD avalung packs do a great job of keeping the water flowing and allowing you to feel organized. I've never had to use the avalung in an emergency situation but they do work.
