Fortunately, I have not yet had an opportunity to test the Avalung function! It has been an earthshaking year for avalanches

Obviously I have not used the avalanche survival features yet, but they are packaged conveniently. The mouthpiece is tucked inside the left shoulder strap. Excellent pockets in the front pocket for shovel, probe poles. Rear pocket modestly sized for other equipment, and a pocket for hydration system.. Very light.

    Good points:

    1) Fits well enough, and suspension is so good (I am 6-0, and bought M/L size) that 20 + pounds is hardly noticeable)
    2) Lots of compartments
3)VERY easy to use ski straps)
    5) Helmut carrier
    5) Price was so reasonable, it would have been a great deal even without the Avalung.
    6)Great overall design.
    7) Should hold plenty of gear for a very long day trip.

My avi gear fits fine in the dedicated pocket. The helmet holder is great. The water sleeve on the shoulder strap keeps my hydration tube from freezing in all most all weather.

I was disappointed with this pack for two reasons. First, the front panel, aka the "dedicated avalanche gear pocket" is too small to actually fit avalanche gear in it! I ordered the S/M and i couldn't get the front pocket zipped closed with my shovel and probe in it. I thought maybe it was because my shovel was made by G3 and the pocket was designed for BD shovels. I tried a friends Black Diamond D7 shovel and it wouldn't fit either. I tried carrying my skis on the pack in their "unique diagonal ski carry cable" and what's unique about it is my skis didn't stay diagonal. The tilted over and were horizontal. Because of those two strikes I'm returning the pack.
