These are AT/Telemark skis, AT/Telemark skis do not have fish scales. These skis are intended to be used with climbing skins to climb up hill. The skins are then removed to ski downhill.. Wax-less Nordic (cross country) ski are the kind of skis that will have what you are referring to as fish scales.

Not necessarily Kevin. See tele-skis made by Madshus or the Karhu Guide. They have fish scales for climbing moderate grades often seen on east coast tours. They are great in the spring when snow conditions are variable and you dont want to mess with wax.
