I bought these for the kids because of the price. The headlamp is ultra lightweight and surprisingly bright. It truly is all the flashlight they will need on backpacking trips. They won't need to borrow mine now. The battery is a little expensive ($5) to replace. It's a 6 volt silver oxide battery. Battery will need replacing after every trip. I'll probably carry a spare battery.

I bought this headlamp on sale through STP and after one trip the blue plastic casing fell off and would not stay on, therefor the battery would not stay in either. The plastic was very thin but for the few days it worked the light beam was nicely adjustable and it was lightweight...a little too light weight for quality it seems. I will still buy Black diamond because my other headlamp is 10 years old and works like the 1st day. Just don't buy this one.

Bought this to carry in the car in case of an emergency while out at night. Have a similar one in the house for use if the power goes off or if I have to go outside in the dark. It's great as it leaves my hands free if I need to do something. The head strap is a bit uncomfortable to adjust to my head properly. Very useful item.

Wouldn't use this as primary headlamp. But it is a great little lamp to throw in your first aid kit as a back up. If you're out past (or before) dark the last thing you want is to be without light. This little headlamp packs a punch and gets you back to the trail head.
