Most Helpful 4-Star Review
Reviewed by Stoyan from Bulgaria on Sunday, April 7, 2013I'm tall and on the thin side (6'4 178) and fit the specs for the M/L pack. After skiing a season with it, though, I know that the pack is too big. It's long, and it hangs below the top of my hip bones, so I have to hike it up to "fit". But even here it never feels totally stable: going into a hard turn or leaning over to tighten my boots results in the pack swing & shifting on my back -- more than what I consider "normal" for a well-fitted pack. (Perhaps this is because I'm thin and can't tighten the straps enough?) Perhaps I'd be fine with the S/M, even though I measure larger than that. I really liked the pack, as there are the right amount of bells and whistles, but not too many. It makes sense. Were I to order this again, I'd order both sizes and try them on for fit instead of relying solely on BD's size chart. Hope this helps.
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Backcountry gal from Rocky Mountains, Colorado on Friday, January 18, 2013I love the fact that this pack has a back entry so you can dig out stuff at the bottom of the pack. I had been using my summer day pack (a whopping 50L) for backcountry skiing, and the avy tools got in the way of finding stuff, plus the pack was so large it swung around on my back as I skied. This pack has a separate compartment for the tools that fit my big BCA companion shovel and probe, plus I've stashed a few other things in there. The 30L volume is just right for a day trip. And it carries my skis well in A-frame style.
My only complaint is that it doesn't have a helmet holder (thus 4 stars instead of 5). I attach the helmet to the snowshoe straps and it sits there quite nicely, however the helmet picks up snow and gets wet inside so I plan to buy or sew an attachment for this. I have small shoulders and the S/M size works fine for me.
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Muscles the Hammer from Concord, NH on Wednesday, January 16, 2013Bought this for my wife to use for back country skiing. Everything looked and worked great on it with the exception of no helmet sling. My fault for not noticing this in the description but we had to return it none the less. If you don't require a helmet sling I think anyone would be happy with this pack. Nice internal layout, comfortable fit, and seemed very well built.
