June 1st is National Trails Day. Take the day and hit your favorite local trail for some hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, paddling or bird watching. You may even find a trail building event or a local hike organized by the American Hiking Society. Grab your family, friends and neighbors and hit the trails this weekend to celebrate National Trails Day.
The American Hiking Society's National Trail Day is a celebration of our country's amazing trail systems. Trails get people outside, connect them with nature and promote healthy physical activity. The best pair of hiking boots, trekking poles and daypack are worthless without good trails to get you into the backcountry. So consider volunteering some time to help build or repair a trail in your area or just hit the trail for an afternoon hike or mountain bike ride.
Whether you enjoy hiking, biking, backpacking, horseback riding or bird watching, visit a national park, state park, city park or local open space and explore the outdoors. You'll get some fresh air, see some wildlife and get some great exercise.
Leave a comment below with the name of your favorite trail. Will you be getting out on National Trails Day?
